Crusty Eyes: Re: Snickers' Medical Thread

My heart is just breaking for you. I have been in that same place, and it's dark and painful and it seems like you're moving through a fog. Nothing makes sense and you're just going through the...
  3. Urine: Re: Spasms in guinea pig sides before peeing

A bladder stone, if it moves, you'll know very quickly. And if it moves its already too late. If Boogies is a good candidate for surgery, if he were mine I'd do it and do it fast.

    See, we didn't...

Not Eating: Re: Friar Tuck's medical thread

Is he still on antibiotics? And if he is, he's still getting the probiotic correct?

First thing I would do is stop the veggies. If you don't have any Pedialyte or the generic stuff, get some....

Crusty Eyes: Re: Snickers' Medical Thread

    LemonySnickers

I can't even say how sorry I am. Saying "I know how you feel" doesn't help. Because we all have different bonds with our pigs, and each one hurts differently. I know losing...
  6. Scratching: Re: Some days my guinea pigs scratch a lot but some day they don't

The ONLY thing I can think of off the top of my head is humidity.

They would tend to have dry itchy skin if the humidity in your house is low, and scratch a lot less if the humidity is higher.
  7. Sick: Re: "Wet" and strange noises after eating

I have never heard that sound from a guinea pig before.

If he were mine, I would make sure those videos were on my phone and make an appointment with an exotic vet in short order. Show them to...

Re: God Bless You, Dear Horatio!

I am so sorry you've lost little Horatio. I'm sure he's loved immensely by both your family and his brother Hamlet. We really do get very attached to these little furballs.

    He's at the Rainbow...

Frustrated: Re: Found abandoned guinea pigs

    Thank you.

Thank you for giving Bruin a chance. A fighting chance that his former "caregiver" didn't give him. Who didn't give either of them, for that matter. I very much wish that it had...
  10. Sad: Re: Bought 2 Females, found out today 1 is Male?

You have a dilemna on your hands, and there IS no easy solution. I know how quickly people get attached to pigs, so I don't know if this is an option or not.

You can take the male back to...

Not Eating: Re: Friar Tuck's medical thread

I'm very happy he's doing a little better today. I don't know why, but I just have the feeling he's eaten one of the little thorn thingies I've seen in my Oxbow. I've no idea what they're called but...

Not Eating: Re: Friar Tuck's medical thread

In answer to your previous question.........yes. And I may have taken it out of context here but I would continue to either keep seeing vets until I got an answer, or until the ultimate answer...
  13. Urine: Re: Spasms in guinea pig sides before peeing

    I am so sorry, lattiee.

I know it sounds easy to say, but the kindest thing to do for Boogies is let him go. Have your vet ease him out painlessly.

If the bladder stones moves and blocks his...
  14. Genitals: Re: My pig leaves brown stain on the floor and its genitals, i wonder if its diarrhea

First thing I would do is cut out all the fruits and veggies. Give him water, good quality pellets and good quality timothy hay as those are the most important staples of his diet. Timothy hay is...
  15. Genitals: Re: My pig leaves brown stain on the floor and its genitals, i wonder if its diarrhea

That sure looks like diarrhea to me. What do you feed him?
  16. Urine: Re: Spasms in guinea pig sides before peeing

Boogies needs a vet NOW. It sounds to me like he has a bladder stone, and it could also be a urinary tract infection. X-rays would be a good place to start.

Not Eating: Re: Friar Tuck's medical thread

Aw, man. I had some really high hopes. It sounds so, so much like Punkin and Scooter, they way their illness started. It REALLY sounds like something in his mouth is causing him pain. I hope very,...

Not Eating: Re: Friar Tuck's medical thread

SO glad to hear! I do have to wonder if it wasn't something like a hay poke in his gums or something along those lines. If that is what it was, I'm very happy that it didn't go along the same...

Not Eating: Re: Friar Tuck's medical thread

Glad to hear he's feeling a little better! I always loved opening the windows in the spring and watching their little noses go berserk, pointed skyward.

I would begin to worry about the Critical...
  20. Lethals: Re: 5 Month Old Male Charlie Blood from Nose

Firstly, let me say that I am so, so sorry for your loss. Losing a pig especially in that fashion is heartbreaking.

I have heard of this happening a few times, and although I don't have a...

    Diet: Re: Overweight sow

If she runs that's fantastic. I jokingly called Punkin, and now Leo, "Thumpy Bum" because when they run all you hear is ba-dump ba-dump ba-dump!

    Diet: Re: Overweight sow

And I'll add this as a relative comparison. Even though I had boars, my boys weights normally were as follows:

    Pooper - 1450 grams
    Sly - 1500 grams
    Punkin - 1600 grams
    Scooter - 1450...

    Diet: Re: Overweight sow

Both of your girls look perfectly healthy to me. An "overweight sow" is a relative term. They are herbivores, so it's pretty tough to get fat on hay and vegetables.

    Every pig is different. Some...

Not Eating: Re: Friar Tuck's medical thread

When Punkin and Scooter's issues started, Punkin was initially thought to have malocclusion, and he did. But it was CAUSED by an incisor infection. His tooth hurt, so he chewed on one side of his...
