How Much?: Re: Going Through Hay Fast

I view hay as the cheapest and most nutritious essential that cavies need........in an unlimited amount. Their teeth grow SO rapidly and if you have a cavy who doesn't eat enough hay, he invariably...

Cleaning: Re: How To Properly Clean A Cage?

As I said, let the surfaces of the cage dry before you put the cavies back into it. The smell should dissipate shortly.

Aggression: Re: Im completely lost with my guinea pigs

This is not the proper way to do introductions. Perhaps @bpatters will come along and provide a link to the guide to introductions.

Cleaning: Re: How To Properly Clean A Cage?

Washing the cage with plain water simply isn't washing it. The cage needs to be cleaned on a regular basis with some sort of cleaning solution. Listen to @bpatters.........a mixture of vinegar and...

C&C: Re: Can I use milk cartons as a stand?

The only thing that concerns me is that wire grids sitting on plastic milk cartons/crates could prove to be slippery. Anything human or animal inadvertently crashing into the cage could knock it to...
  6. Chat Re: Just for fun...what exactly are piggy kisses?

You will know what it is once you have experienced it. It is actually licking and kissing. My dearly departed Sparky was an obsessive kisser insofar as I am concerned. He would be lying on my...
  7. Sick: Re: Gunea pig with sore bottom and soft stool?

It sounds so very serious! I know how difficult your situation can be because we feel so helpless to be able to help our beloved furballs. All the best to you moving forward.
  8. Mites: Re: Suspect Mites: where to find ivermectin in Canada

Unless your cavies are quite small, I would use literally two two drops on the bald spot behind the ear. Fold back the ear and rub it in. I would apply it weekly for four weeks.
  9. Mites: Re: Suspect Mites: where to find ivermectin in Canada

Be a little patient and someone from Canada will come along and have some input. The Forum often moves slowly on the weekends.

Sexing: Re: need help sexing two week old guinea pigs

I dunno.......I think I'm seeing two sows (both white bums) and one boar (tan). There are some excellent pics here on the Forum that clearly show the difference. Perhaps the OP will come along and...
  11. Sick: Re: Gunea pig with sore bottom and soft stool?

I would remove the GD liner or at least put the pocket facing away from your cavies. If she has been sleeping in the poop, that may have scalded her bum and it is tender. Keep the Vet appointment as...
  12. Mites: Re: Suspect Mites: where to find ivermectin in Canada

I'm not a Canuck, but many of us here in the US buy ours from Amazon. I don't blame you for not wanting to mess with the paste. I know that it can be used, but I'm wary of trying to dilute it for...

General: Re: Guinea pigs and ferrets?

Why not?? So long as they aren't in the same cage, I don't see what the problem would be. I have little knowledge of keeping a ferret, but I don't know that I would put their cages side-by-side even...

UTI: Re: Colonel is squeaking when he pees

We just never seem to have enough time with them and it is so painful when we have to make the decision to let them go. What a lucky little man to share his life with a wonderful piggy Mom! As you...

    General: Re: Paper bedding recommendations

If you buy litter online, it may be prohibitively expensive if you have to pay shipping. It's like buying grids online.........just too heavy.

I would continue to explore your options. Perhaps...

    General: Re: Paper bedding recommendations

While I have fleece liners in my cage, I do use paper bedding in the litter boxes. After trying may different types of bedding, my favorite is Petco's SoPhresh in either the crumbled paper or paper...

Coughing: Re: Odeta's Medical Thread (again)

Could it be that no one ever examined her tongue previously? It's not something that a Vet would likely include in a physical exam....and I doubt that it's something that she would develop later in...

Not Eating: Re: Scooter's medical thread

Your logic seems sound, but this is something that we don't know. Again, I would pose this question to your Vet. My boy Chester survived six dental procedures and the anesthesia that goes with them....

Not Eating: Re: Scooter's medical thread

Sorry that you both are going through this.......yet again. You and I have the worst luck with piggies and their dental problems, don't we? I'm always amazed at just how quickly their molars grow.

    Cage: Re: New bed pads

Absolutely.........many times. :p I'm presuming that you are talking about the washable incontinence bed pads?

Of course, first decide on the desired finished dimensions. Lightly mark the pads and...
  23. Injury: Re: Clipping nails - nail literally fell apart!

My instinct tells me that you were using human nail clippers? If so, what you just experienced is the downside of using them as they often shatter the nail. For that reason, I simply don't use them....

General: Re: Best Vacuum for Fleece
