    Conditions: Re: Balding spots?

If you gently pull the hair in that area or other areas, does it come out easily with small clumps of dry skin attached?
  2. Vet Costs: Re: Please list your single and cumulative vet expenditures. Are there limits?

SgtBilko...I am curious about your post and your true intentions regarding this thread.

On your previous thread you seemed judgemental and balked at vet care for a guinea pig who is, and I quote...

    Conditions: Re: Balding spots?

When you feel on the spots is there any lump or swelling?

When mine developed sebaceous cysts they developed hair thinning in the spots where the swelling occurred.
  4. Behavior: Re: Pig is like catatonic. also not really eating

I feel the same way! My dog & cats are far easier...cheaper & less time consuming ...than my guinea pigs!
  5. Re: Any advice on grieving and how to cope with guilt?

I am so sorry for your loss.

It is always hard to lose a beloved pet. Take care and don't let guilt weigh you down or cloud your memories.
  6. Behavior: Re: Pig is like catatonic. also not really eating

Also, your plastic storage container isn't wide enough. They need width as much as length...at 20 inches, that's not even the equivalent of 2 grids wide....it would be like living in a narrow, short...
  7. Behavior: Re: Pig is like catatonic. also not really eating

Interestingly enough in some countries it's illegal to own just one guinea pig, so you're outnumbered in your assessment that they are "just rodents" and content as a loner.

    Let's not play...
  8. Behavior: Re: Pig is like catatonic. also not really eating

If you are still syringe/force feeding you need to use a product formulated for the special diet and nutritional needs of guinea pigs. Critical Care by Oxbow is recommended because it has the correct...

    General: Re: Post neutering question.

Good luck to both you and him! Keep us posted on how he is doing.

I also can't wait to hear about how it goes when he finally gets to meet the ladies.

Neutering usually goes well and sometimes...

    General: Re: Post neutering question.

I have had 2 boars neutered.

The first had some slight complications due to a reduction in his eating & drinking on day 3 through about day 7...but we had critical care and pedialyte on hand. He...

  12. General: Re: My guinea pig upper front teeth kinda thick

You need to provide your guinea pig with good quality hay, not alfalfa, for your almost 1 year old female. Timothy and orchard hays are good choices. I can't see her being able to even eat compressed...
  13. General: Re: My guinea pig upper front teeth kinda thick

I am hoping we can help you figure out what is happening so we can assist you in problem solving the issue that is causing the tooth issues.

I realized you posted recently regarding another of...
  14. Introductions: Re: Introducing a male guinea pig to my two females

I'm not seeing anything in your post about your females being spayed nor the male being neutered.

If they are not fixed then it would be a horrible idea to introduce these 3 year old females to...

Injury: Re: Guinea Pig head tilted

Allenf...as said above, make an appointment with an exotics vet as soon as possible.

Ask for Benebac if you are given an antibiotic (or buy some on Amazon, chewy, or elsewhere). Benebac is a...

Upper Levels: Re: Loft/Built in house

You can go to the cage store associated with this forum and go to the "Expanding" section for products or ideas.

I built a cross between a patio and a mezzanine for a section of my 2x10 upper...
  18. URI: Re: How to mix Doxycycline in a carrier and determine dose

Understandable that you want to avoid the vet fees for a condition you feel confident you already have diagnosed, but I would caution you in trying to create your own antibiotic suspension.

Behavior: Re: New pups, need help!

Make sure you not only separate the adult male and female, but you also remove any male pups at 21 days from any females (including mom).
  20. Re: Guidance needed please - new to guinea pigs

I am thinking everything that GuineaPigPapa said above as well...

But...just to be on the safe side I thought I'd ask about how your little one looks. Do you notice any nasal discharge or eye...

Cage: Re: Advice with water bottles

I have a front load washer.

Yes, there is some hair left in the washer after washing guinea pig stuff...but honestly less than when I wash my short hair dog's or long hair cats' stuff.

    I of...
  23. Diet: Re: Questions about diet change with abnormal poops/pee deposits

Have you tried adding in some oat hay to treat the mushy poops?

I have always had luck giving my guinea pigs, who have had mushy poop, a nice pile of oat hay when they have needed Benebac. The...

Cage: Re: Advice with water bottles

Yes, unfortunately that is very true.

Honestly though if these are your first guinea pigs, and with your 9 year old daughter being involved, I would recommend adult pigs anyways.

    Babies are...

Cage: Re: Advice with water bottles

Yep, couldn't have said it better!

When you have guinea pigs you eventually have to embrace the hay mess within the cage. You can try to contain it, but they will do what they will with it and to...
