    Hay: Re: Best Hay?

We get the big bulk box of Oxbow timothy hay, and my piggies love it!!! Even my Robin Hood, who didn't use to be the best hay eater, devours it :)

It's nice and green, with lots of long soft...

    Re: Pandemic Class Pet Piggie

I'm so glad you've taken him in, and you're doing good so far! It must have been terribly, terribly stressful for him to be going home with different people every week, poor guy.

    That's awesome...

    General: Re: Best/worst pellet brands?

I would highly recommend Oxbow, as well! KMS is also great but I've never personally used it.

The ingredients you're worried about are indeed fillers for piggies, too. Like cheap dog/cat foods,...
  8. Re: My guinea pigs favorite thing in the world is "fill in the blank*

My guinea pig Robin Hood's favorite thing in the whole wide world is being pet while laying down on the roof of his hidey house. Ever since he was big enough to hop up there! And he loves his...

Weight Loss: Re: Adopted severely underweight pigs

One of my piggies was underweight when I adopted him, too. ( Except he was a baby, only about 5 weeks old  )

I gave him unlimited timothy hay, lots of healthy veggies, and unlimited Oxbow...

    Fur: Re: Rare guinea pigs

Aw, he's so adorable! I've never owned a silver guinea pig, but I've always thought they're gorgeous. You don't see them near as often as the more typical colors, but I don't think they're extremely...

    Diet: Re: Quick question

I personally never give broccoli or cabbage to my guinea pigs because they're so gassy... Most people are ok doing very small amounts of it about once week. I just never want to risk bloating issues,...
  12. Lethargy: Re: Guinea Pig not eating and lethargic

It frequently gets to about 80 in our house through all of summer, too. If it is heat that's affecting your piggy, this is what we've done that's really helped!

First, we have a small fan that...
  13. Seeking Ferret bedding/food/ forums/etc info!

We've adopted two ferrets today! We are not entirely new to them, but this is the first time we've had them in many years, so I want to get up to speed on any new info and find some...

    How Much?: Re: How often?

The best rule of thumb is just 1 cup of veggies and greens every day ( slightly more than a cup if it's more greens than veggies ) You can give her half a cup in the morning and a half a cup at...
  15. Biting: Re: Advice on nail trimming a biting piggy?

Thanks!! If we don't already have any like that I'll get some.
  16. Biting: Re: Advice on nail trimming a biting piggy?

That's my Robin Hood, too! He's all attitude, usually in a good way, sometimes, in this instance, not lol

What type of gloves did you use? We also always have a person to hold and a person to trim!
  17. Sneezing: Re: 5 month old sneezing since adoption, how to help her?

We used to get Kaytee Timothy hay. It could get really dusty toward the bottom of the bags. We switched to Oxbow timothy hay, and it's much fresher, softer, and not dusty at all. We buy their bulk (I...
  18. Sneezing: Re: 5 month old sneezing since adoption, how to help her?

One of my piggies did almost exactly the same thing! ( except it lasted only about 3 weeks )

He was the same age when we got him, about a month. He also acted fine in every way: no discharge,...
  19. Biting: Re: Advice on nail trimming a biting piggy?

I've been thinking along the lines of nice thick work-type gloves, and the thick sweatshirt is a great idea, thank you!!

We already got all his front nails done today by trimming them through the...
  20. Play: Plush pillows/toys for guinea pigs?

This is just a little thing I've been curious about a while :)

I've seen many adorable pictures of guinea pigs cuddling with pillows and stuffed animals/plush toys. Are these safe? Do a lot of...
  21. Biting: Advice on nail trimming a biting piggy?

My piggy Robin Hood can be a biter, and when it comes to nail trims he's pretty much out for blood...So any advice is most welcome!

He's about a year old, not neutered male. He was a rescue, but...

General: Re: Living in a patio?

    Sorry, Absolutely no!!

The combination of Florida heat and humidity outside, even if it doesn't feel so hot to us, would be truly deadly to piggies. Even short haired piggies have very dense fur...

    Hay: Re: GuineaDad Timothy Hay.

Neither of my piggies will touch pea flakes, either! They took a few sniffs, then turned up their noses and walked away lol

    Hay: Re: GuineaDad Timothy Hay.

You're welcome! :) I couldn't agree more...I used to have hay racks, before I realized just how much they enjoy playing and grazing in their hay piles.

And yes, that's my sweet Friar Tuck! He's a...

    Hay: Re: GuineaDad Timothy Hay.

I think you're absolutely right on hay piles for piggies! Both of mine enjoy them, but my Friar Tuck just adores them! He loves to push it into a "nest" of sorts, and lie down right in the middle....
