Nutrition: Re: Does benebac help with appetite?

All Bene-Bac does is to repopulate the gut with helpful bacteria. It may or may not help with appetite, but is usually given to calm the gut and help with digestive issues in the intestines.

Diet: Re: Veggies to feed with mazuri pellets?

Mazuri pellets contain calcium carbonate, which has been anecdotally linked to bladder stones. If you can get Oxbow or KMS Hayloft, they'd be a better bet.

Newborn Pups: Re: Baby developing slowly, nursing constantly

    I'm so very sorry.

In retrospect, that eye shape might have been an indicator of genetic defects. Not necessarily so, but possibly.

    Size: Re: Splitting C&C cage?

A 2x4 is the minimum size for two pigs, and bigger is much better.

And no, splitting the cage won't help. That's not the way to introduce pigs. See...

    Keeping Warm: Re: Temperature

I would not use an unattended portable heater. You can cover the cage with a blanket at night, or put hideys that are just larger than the pigs in there -- their body heat will help keep them warm. ...
  6. Rescues: Re: Banning water bottles and favoring water bowls?

Bottles are way better than bowls. It is GUARANTEED that they'll pee and poop in the bowls, which they can't do with the bottles.
  7. Medications: Re: Have some questions about invermectin really need help.

Here's a thread about how to treat for lice and mites: https://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/threads/111160-How-to-treat-for-mites-and-lice

    But I have some questions.

    Is your ivermectin a real...

Cage: Re: Would this be a big enough cage?

It doesn't meet the minimum SPCA recommended size, and you don't need that shelf that's in there.

If you're concerned about costs, this is fall election time, and candidate signs are made out of...

    Keeping Warm: Re: Warm Enough?

Beware of the pockets. We had a user at GL whose pigs had continuous URIs, and the cause was the pockets where the pigs spent a lot of time. Once the pockets were removed, the pigs recovered.

    Behavior: Re: Baby guinea pigs

That helps, but you need to cover the ramp with something. It's very possible for a guinea pig to sprain or break a leg on those open bars.

    Behavior: Re: Baby guinea pigs

It's not nearly large enough for one pig, much less three. That may well be your problem with the way the sow treats the pups.

One guinea pig needs at least 7.5 square feet, and more pigs require...

C&C Alternatives: Re: Could I use a dog Crate as a cage?

How big? Two pigs need a minimum of eight square feet, and more is better.

I've used a dog cage as a temporary fix when having to isolate a pig, and while it works for a short time, it would have...
  13. Not Eating: Re: Bumblefeet + Possible bladder stone : not drinking, Eating less but no visible pa

Cold pressed virgin coconut oil has both antibacterial and antifungal properties, lubricates the feet, and also forms a protective barrier.

Teeth: Re: Weaning off of Critical care...advice?

I'd do a slow wean rather than cold turkey.
  15. Not Eating: Re: Bumblefeet + Possible bladder stone : not drinking, Eating less but no visible pa

Vaseline is not a treatment for bumblefoot. It's caused by a bacterial infection, and while vaseline will soften the skin, it won't treat the problem. See...

    Cyst: Re: Cleaning Cyst Spot

Use the curved oral syringe and flush it twice a day. You want it to heal from the inside out. If it scabs over and there's any bacteria in there, it will just stay infected.
  17. General: Re: New babies: Should I separate the unrelated one?

There's no need to separate the other female unless she's the one in ten thousand sows that doesn't like pups. Just make sure the cage is large enough for all of them, as the pups may get their ears...

Lump: Re: Weird lump on boar male nipple

Yes, he will need to see a vet, but it's not a hair-on-fire emergency. It's probably a mammary tumor, which should be easily removed by a competent exotic vet. Those tumors can grow fairly quickly...
  20. URI: Re: What can I do while I wait to get into a vet!

What exactly does she eat? What brand of pellets, and how many? What veggies? I'd assume a vitamin deficiency at the very least, but what you give will depend on what else she's eating.
