Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

The spot that was open after the sutures came out was the area that was open again. It doesn't look too bad after it was cleaned up. We're supposed to continue the eye drops, and continue w/ orbax to...

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

We have an appt Tuesday. The doctor offered a quick spot on Saturday but I turned it down and just picked up meds, as I didn't expect sutures to be left over. I really hope all they have to do is...

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

I think I found the issue. There's a piece of suture left in the upper corner where he is having issues. It is blue like the stitches, but faded, so I'm assuming it is leftover stitches.

Bonding: Re: Dogs and guinea pigs?

You should probably just keep them away from each other (pig in cage and not where dog can reach it, and dog not allowed in room). A dog may be small, but some still have a prey drive and will be...

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

I emailed some pics to the vet and they are going to prescribe some drops for him. And they want a follow up with the doctor who did the surgery (who is like their head vet). He isn't in pain, no...

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

So that spot must have come open because there is some drainage. Little Bear is acting fine but I'm pretty sure that spot is open. I work til Tuesday and idk if my vet at work can handle this so I...

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

The vet called us and said that the histopathology came back with cataracts (obviously) and a (I think he said congenital) corneal disease. Overall nothing scary like cancer.

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

The vet doesn't have our results yet, so they're checking on that. The doctor says everything is great aside from a tiny spot where the skin didn't heal so they had to glue it. As long as that stays...

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

Tomorrow morning we get the stitches removed. This whole surgery and recovery has been uneventful. Hopefully tomorrow will be the last vet visit for a long time. We haven't heard the eye test...

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

Still doing well. I noticed his head tilt has gotten "worse" but it isn't as extreme as some pictures I see on google. He has always had a head tilt to the right, which is where he is now eye-less.

Not Eating: Re: 4/5 year old male stopped eating?

If my old man didn't eat for 2 days, I'd be making an emergency appt with our vet. Not eating for that long is not good at all.

Adopting: Re: Finding a buddy for piggy is HARD.

In my experience animal shelters are either lax with requirements or don't know about "pocket pets" (example - when adopting my first pair from an animal shelter, they were willing to let me adopt...
  13. Re: Guinea pig pair dumped in wet cardboard box with no food or water - ITV News

It takes a cruel, deliberate thought to do this. They could have easily been taken to an animal shelter. Instead they purposely put them in a box where they would die. Kind of like how my boys were...
  14. Re: Guinea pig pair dumped in wet cardboard box with no food or water - ITV News

I wish I'd contacted media about Bruin and Little Bear. The girl who found them wouldn't give me the exact location where she found them. I did post on social media but no one knew them

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

Everything's going well. Little Bear's weight went down to 630 (678 at the vet) but he's eating and acting normal, so I'm not worried. i already put him back with Gimbly a few days ago. Tbh I don't...
  16. Vet: Re: 7 year old sweet pea having neurological issues

You said she's being treated for a URI - have you asked the vet about the behavior? I also have an older pig (vet estimated to be 5 to 6 yrs old last year) who has a head tilt and his head moves to...

Re: Hello! I do have some questions! Brand new here :)

Best thing is to call and ask if that Banfield sees pigs, or if they can direct you to one that does. Honestly Banfield is really expensive. Even my exotics vet where I take my pigs is cheaper. An...

Re: Hello! I do have some questions! Brand new here :)

If this is Banfield Pet Hospital, unless they have an vet who actually cares for exotics, you need to reconsider. I say this, because I work at Banfield and I would never in a million years bring my...

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

Things seem to be back to normal for Little Bear. He is moving around more, eating, and coming to the side of the cage looking for snacks. I'm glad the surgery was so easy for him, after all the bad...

Behavior: Re: Finding a Piggy in a Haysack

My boys like to sleep, nest, and hide in their hay. The hay is loose in their cage and not contained in a rack or sack, so they're free to what they want to it.

    Re: Guinea Pig Allergies

My coworker says she gets hives when she handles gpigs (we work at a vet). She thought about it being the hay, but if she's holding the pigs or near them, idk if that would count as hay allergies.

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

Actually I forgot I should be doing that. He was 678 grams at the vet. He has been steadily gaining weight since March which I think is when he dropped to 570ish. 1.5lbs is his normal weight.

Eyes: Re: Little Bear's ouchie eye

It's been hard today to tell if he's eating enough. There's plenty of poop. He seems to prefer hay over everything right now. I did feed some Critical Care which he ate slowly. I gave it to the other...
  25. Re: I think my hamster is about to kick the bucket

I just wanted to show off the pawprints I got today. I had Spencer cremated. I was pretty impressed with the paws.
