  1. Aggression: Re: Boys are being unusually aggressive

I wouldn't worry too much about the hackles. Leo does that constantly to Simon. Simon just looks at him as if to say, "Really, dude?"

Leo doesn't mean anything by it. He just thinks he's the...

    Hay: Re: Orchard Grass

I have recently switch my boys to nothing BUT orchard grass. Its fine for them. Many pigs only get orchard grass due to their human parents allergy to timothy hay. It's nutritionally similar and...
  3. Re: Happy to be here! My name is Ben and Theo is my piggy.

Welcome to the forum Ben, to both you and Theo. He is an adorable little guy!
  4. Aggression: Re: Boys are being unusually aggressive

Pooper was a butt wiggler. Leo is also a butt wiggler, and it's hilarious. None of my other boys have done that. Most of them just put their nose in the air and grumble.
  5. Aggression: Re: Boys are being unusually aggressive

You're going to get lots of that. I wouldn't worry about it and just enjoy the show, as long as no blood is drawn. Gimbly is likely a bit grumpy because of his feet but nothing to worry about.

General: Re: How much napping is too much?

I can appreciate that. Sometimes a pig just doesn't want a buddy. Age, though, has little to do with it. They'll either get along or they wont. Some pigs just adore one another, and some just...

General: Re: How much napping is too much?

It sounds like mostly normal behaviour. Although sleeping a lot might be due to boredom. Guinea pigs are recommended to be kept in pairs at a minimum.
  8. Supplements: Re: Oxbow Natural Science (Supplements) - Your Thoughts?

I had given the Joint Support tablets to both Pooper and Sly, years ago. They seemed to help Pooper and even Sly later on in life, however, neither pig would eat them on their own.

    I had to...

    Dominance: Re: Three Boar Bullying

The little one is old enough to be neutered so that's good.

Let us know how you make out and what your options end up being. We're always here to help if we can.

    Dominance: Re: Three Boar Bullying

Neutering the little one and housing him with a female would be a wonderful idea. And I can guarantee you that even if it does improve in the next couple of days, when they've all hit puberty there...

    Dominance: Re: Three Boar Bullying

Long story short? Your best option here is to either rehome the little guy (or one of them anyway) and keep only two, or build a complete second cage for the singleton and another new addition for a...

Sad: Re: Guinea pig palliative care

I'm so sorry you're going through this. It just is not fair for these sweet, innocent little creatures. You are not alone.

Back in 2016, I lost my original boy Pooper at about 6 1/2 years old. ...
  14. Cleaning: Re: Can you add lavender or other scent to washing machine with the fleece bedding?

No. Don't add any scents, oils, or anything else to their fleece. Pigs have very sensitive respiratory systems and as such are VERY susceptible to upper respiratory infections. These can come...
  15. Say What?: Re: Newest addition has retrained everyone on how to beg for food

While it might be irritating at times, I'm sure I don't need to say this but its definitely how I feel.

I would give anything to have Sly back dancing at the bars, or to hear Scooter yanking on...

Behavior: Re: Two sows fighting! help!

Leave them together. If they haven't drawn blood there is no reason to separate. They are two sows who are young and have been tossed in a new place together, and they basically need to go through...

    Re: Nibbler's Medical Thread

I have heard that bloat in a pig can be a symptom of bladder stones. I would ask if you have had recent xrays but you obviously have.

The only suggestion I might have, is to have more...

Not Eating: Re: Trouble feeding Critical Care

I admit it's a pain to fill a small syringe with another. But once I figured out the best way to do it, it made feeding my boys MUCH easier. That, and I knew they were getting enough food.

Not Eating: Re: Trouble feeding Critical Care

See if the 3ml syringe end fits into the plunger end of the 1ml. It should, I think you are using the same ones I was. I found feeding with a 1ml syringe MUCH easier for my pigs. Just make sure you...

Hay: Re: I've had it with Oxbow hay

I go through a lot of hay. They eat a lot, but they play in (and soil) the rest.

As long as they're eating it and they're happy, I couldn't care less how much I use.
  25. UTI: Re: My guinea is not feeling well, is this an emergency? I'm really new to guineas.

My best advice (and believe me, I know it's Christmas) would be to get her in ASAP. A pig who is ill can go downhill with frightening speed.

With a wet bum it sounds like it may be a urinary...
