Mites: Re: Ick! What do I do!?

    Mites can/will eventually kill them.
It is believed mites lay dormant and flare up from time to time. They, like most parasites, are contracted from contact with infected animals- usually of the...

Re: Are my grids not high enough?

At 3 months my girls were still able to climb through the holes in the grids so they were baby proofed (double gridded) still are double gridded, so they do not squeeze through. 9x9 holes might be...

Re: Hay ball dispenser or toy?

I have a small hanging hay stuffer like bird toy in my cage- like in your second link with smaller holes and they will empty that out within a half hour then they would be out of hay if that was...

Coro Alternatives: Re: Shower curtain liner vs. coro

You might be able to tape together cardboard to get the basic look of a coro-box and then tightly tuck the shower curtain around it and that would make it easier to clean.

    Size: Re: C&C Square Footage.

    Another option:
(multiply number of grids times the inches per grid)
    2x14=28
    3x14=42
(12 inches per foot, so divide each of those by 12)
    28/12=2.33
    42/12=3.5
(multiply the two together and you...

    Diet: Re: Which is better?

Kleenmama's or oxbow are the best pellets to feed to guinea pigs. Kleenmama's Hayloft :: Home
    Oxbow Animal Health | Home
Kleenmama's is only available online, Oxbow is available in some stores.
  8. Size: Re: How many square feet would you need for 8 guinea pigs?

A 2X5 is just a little over 13 square feet. The smallest size I would put 8 guinea pigs in personally would be a 4X6. I am keeping 5 females in a 4X8 and I can't imagine putting any more in.

C&C: Re: Where'd you buy materials for C&C cage?

Ebay has a great deal on grids, I ordered mine on ebay from a warehouse. It is like buying in bulk as "extra" product like buying at Sam's club.

    Fighting: Re: Killing each other?

    1 meter is 3 feet.
Square footage is measured by multiplying the number of feet long by number of feet wide.
    3 X 3 = 9
A cage that is only a meter long and a meter wide is only nine square feet....

    Fighting: Re: Killing each other?

Never indicates that it is impossible. It is not impossible that a guinea pig will fight however most guinea pigs who are the same size/age would have a harder time killing each other straight out....

    Fighting: Re: Killing each other?

Jennicat did say that if they have a cage mate that the cage mate might attack them if they seem ill in an attempt to get them moving again. It's possible they were already near death when the bite...
  15. Re: Is it separation anxiety? And is a "pen" or an "area" better than crating?

That area is so small.... I would figure out if there was a whole room the dog could be free in. I know I just lock our dog up in my bedroom or my brother's bedroom when we leave the house......

Hay: Re: Little bits at the bottom

If you really feel bad about it, find a place in your yard to put it out. Other animals will use it as nesting material or food. Another option is to turn the small pieces into a game. Try stuffing...

Fleece: Re: I have reached my wit's end.

I just solved this problem with my guinea pigs, I took the fleece out and turned it upside down. There are now five sections of fleece in the cage as it went from a possible two story 2X4 to a 2story...

Pellets: Re: I am not sure what to do!
