Hi trump_cinnamon~ The inner squares are the recommended 1 1/2" except for the four grids against the back wall; that is why the coroplast goes up higher on this edge to keep these larger squares inaccessible to my piggies. My girls can't reach the "dangerous" grids. Thanks for your concern though!
