Hi there everybody!
First, I want to start by saying that I am in love with this site and the guinea lynx info site, it ALMOST saved my little Peanut's life.
Before I get to my questionn, I want to start off talking a little bit about myself. I'm from Canada and I am a proud owner of 2 pigs ( I had three, but again, i'll get to that in a sec.) Their names are Gizmo(Short haired) and Chaz(Abby.) And they've both been adopted from our local shelter:) . I share everybodies opinions on here and appreciate all the information on here and on guinea lynx.
Alright, so about 2 weeks ago I noticed a drastic change in my third piggy's attitude. He became very lethargic and his eyes seemed a little yucky. I immediatley remembered these symptoms and realised that he could possibly have an URI. I took him to the vet that afternoon and the vet gave him a shot of antibiotics and I was to give him the rest everyday for about a week and a half. The Doctor also mentioned to me that the chances were slim, but I wanted to do whatever I could so I payed for the medication anyways. Sadly, the doctor was right and my little Peanut is now with all of the other Guinea Pigs in the sky:melodrama These was my first pet loss and it's been hard dealing with it, but I'm already considering a new friend. My question is, should I clean everything that belonged to Peanut? like the things only he used during laptime and such? Could this be contageous too? Could it Peanuts germs harm humans? I couldnt find anything about this and was hoping someone here could tell me!?
Thanks very much and I look forward to participating in the forum!lol

PS: When it comes to new piggy, I'd appreciate any opinnons on what type of breed to get and name possibilities etc etc. I must get over my little loss first!

A warm welcome to Cavy Cages.

I'm so sorry you lost Peanut. It's always tough losing a beloved pet, especially when they touch your heart in such special ways and then part so suddenly.

I am in full agreement with you about Guinea Lynx and Cavy Cages being great sites. They have turned my pigs lives around for the better (much, much better).

On to your question - I would wash everything Peanut was in contact with. I very much doubt his germs are contagious to humans, but I would be worried about Gizmo and Chaz catching anything from the affected items.

I'm looking forward to seeing pigtures of Gizmo and Chaz (and Peanut, if you feel up to it)!

Thanks for the quick reply Cavy-Cool. It's nice to feel welcomed.
I'm just having a bite to eat and then its cleaning time! The laundry room is all set and all of Peanut's things are in a basket waiting to be washed...I'm also cleaning all of his dishes he used during his sudden illness as well as the cage I put him in while he was sick.

I would LOVE to post pictures of the fellars...I'm just quite unfamiliar with the process so if someone could give me a run down that would be great!

Thank you!

Hello, welcome to Cavy cages! I am really sorry for your loss, I have not yet had to deal with the loss of one of my piggies but I have suffered with the loss of a cat and and one of my rats and I know how hard it is.
To upload photos of your little guys you will need to upload them to a photo hosting website. I use www.photobucket.com as it's free and simple to use!

Welcome to the forum. Its so sad as most of the time when we usually welcome a member, its when they first have pigs and its so sad to hear about your loss. Everyone on the forum is here for you. ((hugs)) I've had to deal with the loss of many hamsters and it doesn't stop hurting, don't feel like your alone. Look forward to talking with you in the future and hearing about the antics of Gizmo and Chaz.

Pam
