Hi all! I'm moving from México City to Ensenada (Baja California). It's a non-stop 3.5 hour flight. Taking my two five-year old male guinea pigs is very important to me. I do not want to give them up for adoption.
I was wondering if any of you have safely moved guinea pigs by airplane?
Also, what airline did you fly with?

Thanks!

I've heard people travel by air with their pigs. You may want to price some air lines. Some may even alow them on the plain like they do with cats.

I suggest that you spend some time and Google "-------- pet in cabin policy" as in "Volaris pet in cabin policy" It's easy enough to find each airline's policy.

Air travel within Mexico can be even more restrictive because some of the local community airports don't want any type of animals on the airplane. For flying within Mexico on your chosen route, you have a choice of Aeromexico, Volaris, and Interjet (to the best of my knowledge). Almost NO airline either within Mexico or to the US will permit guinea pigs in the cabin because they are classified as rodents. You should be prepared to acquire an airline-approved shipping container for the boys to travel as cargo. Since they are small pets (like kittens), they should be permitted to fly together in the same container.

The one exception to the "rule" is when an animal has been certified as a therapy animal. This requires obtaining the specific airline's form and having a physician certify that the animal(s) is essential to the emotional health and well-being of the individual. As an FYI, this is how people manage to take an animal into a grocery store even though it isn't a "guide" animal.

Suggest that you carefully read all the way through the first link. The second is a nicely-organized chart:
