I adopted a pregnant guinea pig back in December, and her babies are now 7 weeks old today! Up until last week they were in a set up, like this:

Here is a cage progression for you all;
When the babies were first born:

I had the piggies in a set up, like this:
**They were not actually sitting on towels, the picture was just taken before they were finished being washed!

The plan was that mom and babies would be in the pet-store cage (8 square feet) for baby-proofing purposes, and auntie was supposed to be on the other side, simply for space purposes. The way the cage was set up was that the pet-store cage was inside mom/aunts original dog-playpen-style-cage. Unfortunately the large cage is definitely not safe for babies, so I couldn't keep them all in there. Auntie and mom did not like this plan though, they became very distressed being separated from one another, even though they were right next to each other in seeing/hearing/smelling distance. So, in the baby-proof cage auntie went. It was very cramped in there with 6 piggies, but thankfully 4 of them were very small. If I had a chance to redo it I would have baby-proofed the large cage with chicken wire on the outside, like I've seen some suggest recently, but I can't go back in time.

Fast forward 3 weeks, and their cage set up was like this...https://s1008.photobucket.com/user/ambercalzone/media/photo19_zps2753cb7b.jpg.html (<div class="bbImageWrapper js-lbImage" title="photo19_zps2753cb7b.jpg" data-src="/proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fi1008.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf205%2Fambercalzone%2Fphoto19_zps2753cb7b.jpg&amp;hash=0e0295abd43d320240e17fea96c78ae6" data-lb-sidebar-href="" data-lb-caption-extra-html="" data-single-image="1"> <img src="/proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fi1008.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf205%2Fambercalzone%2Fphoto19_zps2753cb7b.jpg&amp;hash=0e0295abd43d320240e17fea96c78ae6" data-url="https://i1008.photobucket.com/albums/af205/ambercalzone/photo19_zps2753cb7b.jpg" class="bbImage" data-zoom-target="1" style="" alt="photo19_zps2753cb7b.jpg" title="" width="" height="" loading="lazy" /> </div>)
The pet-store cage was now being utilized to baby-proof the dog playpen, while also acting as a divider between the sexes. The cage was split in half. The girls were on one side, and the little man was on the other.

Fast forward another 3 weeks... the babies are now 6 weeks old, and the girls are getting far too large to share a small space. The baby-proofing of the small, pet-store cage bars is no longer needed, so their cage now:https://s1008.photobucket.com/user/ambercalzone/media/IMG_0639_zpsa32e8a26.jpg.html (<div class="bbImageWrapper js-lbImage" title="IMG_0639_zpsa32e8a26.jpg" data-src="/proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fi1008.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf205%2Fambercalzone%2FIMG_0639_zpsa32e8a26.jpg&amp;hash=65c185c4c21147278642c57aa998a4f9" data-lb-sidebar-href="" data-lb-caption-extra-html="" data-single-image="1"> <img src="/proxy.php?image=https%3A%2F%2Fi1008.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Faf205%2Fambercalzone%2FIMG_0639_zpsa32e8a26.jpg&amp;hash=65c185c4c21147278642c57aa998a4f9" data-url="https://i1008.photobucket.com/albums/af205/ambercalzone/IMG_0639_zpsa32e8a26.jpg" class="bbImage" data-zoom-target="1" style="" alt="IMG_0639_zpsa32e8a26.jpg" title="" width="" height="" loading="lazy" /> </div>)
They were still small enough to fit through the bars of the playpen, though, so I simply built them a lip made out of cardboard. The cage is 4 x 4 feet. Oh my goodness, when they got into it... the sight was amazing! All of the babies were popcorning like crazy!! And they kept me up 3 nights in a row from them playing, running laps and chasing one another. They were just so happy, which in turn makes me a very happy piggy-mama! They've been in the big-girl pen for 1 week now.

The baby girls will be leaving me soon for their new home (all being adopted together), so eventually Emma and Ella will have their dog-playpen cage to themselves again.

The boy is still in the same room, but now he has the 8 square foot pet-store cage all to himself. He is also loving the space! He was limited to a very small portion of his cage for a few weeks due to a spinal injury, but now he has full run of it again, which he is loving. He also woke me up a few times from his running laps hehe.
