I see people post pictures of their stacked C&C cages, and I don't understand how it works. I have several questions.

1) Is there a way to stack it so that you can offer an entire 2nd level to your pigs? Like an upstairs 2X4 and a downstairs 2x4?
2) How do you get into it? It looks like it would be hard to have access to the bottom level.
3) Does anyone have a multispecies stacked cage?

You know "a picture is worth a 1000 words"? Much better you see them than for me to try to describe. Yes, lots of pics in the gallery. Click on the "photos" blue tab at the top >>> then "cages open multi-level". There are some 2026 pics for you to look through.

The multi-levels usually have a grid's space between them and some people create theirs with a front that will fold down like a hinged door for easy access. And, yes, there are multispecies cages there.......most notably, cavies on top with rabbits on the bottom. That way the rabbit section can be left open for free roaming.

You can literally spend hours in the gallery and see all sorts of clever designs.

I have seen those. I just couldn't figure out how they worked. I couldn't really see inside in the pictures I was viewing to know if they had the ability to access the second level, or if it was just a second level that wasn't accessible to them. I also couldn't figure out how you accessed into the cage.

Maybe you could do a grid between the two levels? So you could have easy access to the bottom level.

RodentCuddles just did some stacked cages if I remember correctly, she should be able to give you a good idea on how they work.

I just made this a couple weeks ago. Two individual 2X3s.

I HATE it. The bottom isn't hard to access (the middle grid swings up to open) but I hate getting down on my knees to spot clean. This weekend I am rebuilding them each a 2X3 on a stand. Takes up more room, but it's easier to clean and allows the boys to communicate (without killing each other).

It is definitely a good option if you are low on space. It's really easy to build, too. I just can't stand getting on my knees to spot clean, and having to swing open the grid to put in hay and veggies. Though you could leave that grid open, I have it on hinges because of dogs.

If you'd like your pigs to be able to access both levels, I wouldn't add the spacing between the levels like the others have suggested. I'd only do that if you plan to house separate pairs/groups.

You can make doors so you have access to both levels. See this gallery:

These are some of the ones I like.

Yes, some people have rabbits on the bottom, the pigs on top. See this gallery:

I really like how these people make multi level cages. They do drop down fronts, with slide out coroplast. Then the coroplast fronts also drop down so you just sweep the mess into a trash can. You need to add ramps if you want to do it as one big cage so everyone can use all levels. If you want to use each level as a separate cage then you just don't put in ramps. You can do interior ramps or to free up space you can do an exterior ramp that reach all levels. You would need to cut holes in the side of each level so they can access all levels from the one ramp.
