Hi there! My name is Sierra, I'm a third year college student living in Maine. I have 2 guinea's I call my own, but 4 others that live under my roof (they're my boyfriends).

I have Penelope (Penny for short) and Petunia. Penny is a Peruvian piggy. She gets a hair cut once a week and loves to sit in water on a hot day. Her favorite treat is banana yogurt and her favorite past time is wheeping for hay and popcorning. Petunia is a jet black Abyssinian silkie. She has a spot of white on her belly. She likes to sit under the warm laptop, eat carrots on my shoulder and steal parsley from her sister Penny. She loves to hide in hair.

Penny is actually allergic to the dust in hay. She takes guinea pig sized benadryl and has a very hoarse wheep. She's alright though, she's just a little special.

Here are some pictures of the girls!

Penny and my grey tabby cat Gigi. They LOVE each other.

Penny loves car rides, sitting on my shoulder, looking out the window.
And here is Petunia!

They spend evenings eating carrots on my shoulders and spent days lounging beneath their pigloos. I love them dearly.

Now for the other four!

There's Buddy, Basil, Brandi, and Bailey. (Pics in order, Buddy is the only boy)

Let me just tell you, the sound of feeding time in our household is something...

Like a chorus of tiny piggies..

But that's not all!

Along with 6 pigs, we have 2 cats, a hamster, 2 long haired mice, 8 hermit crabs, a 36g goldfish tank, 2 tropical tanks, and 5 bettas.

Gigi, the grey tabby cat.

That's our little life in a nutshell, just two college kids with a lot of furry and scaly friends.

Hi Sierra!
First of all, welcome to the forum :)

Her favorite treat is banana yogurt
Guinea pigs are lactose-intolerant, they should never be fed any animal by-products, feeding dairy products can cause significant digestive problems.

Penny is actually allergic to the dust in hay. She takes guinea pig sized benadryl (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?toolid=10029&campid=CAMPAIGNID&customid=CUSTOMID&catId=11700&type=2&ext=130940045214&item=130940045214) and has a very hoarse wheep.
I'd take her to a vet (If you haven't already), and check to make sure it's actually allergies, allergies in guinea pigs are extremely un-common.
Make sure to only give plain childrens Benadryl, nothing with added congestion, cough, headache medicine ect.

Gorgeous piggies by the way. :)

Looks like Penny is going to be mad at me. She likes her real bananas though so she'll live. I'll stop feeding it to her. And yes! I have taken her to the vet, because I thought she had a really drawn out URI, the vet had only ever seen one pig like her before and diagnosed her with an allergy to hay dust. I thought it was pretty weird too. And yes, I do only give her plain children's benadryl. Thanks!

And the male guinea pig is not neutered.

pennyandpetunia: I have to ask; what is it like caring for so many kinds of pets? I'd imagine that's it a lot of work!! Do you feel like the rewards of having so many outweigh all of the work and resources (time and money) spent in maintaining them? Just curious because I'd like to have my own little "zoo" someday lol.

Also, if Buddy is infact unaltered and living with the females (who I'm assuming are also unaltered), I would HIGHLY urge you or your boyfriend to separate him from the girls ASAP. Pregnancy takes alot out of sows and sometimes they can lead to an early death.

Is the male in with the females, or is he alone?

Oh don't worry, YourSoJelly ! He has his own cage :] The girls are separated as well, Penny and Petunia have a 4x2.5 cage and Basil, Brandi and Bailey have a 2 level 4Lx2Wx3H cage. Buddy has a 3.5x2 all to himself.

alphilip77 It is rewarding :] I LOVE having a lot of pets. It isn't that much work at all! We've spread it out so cage changes are on one day for the pigs, then mice and hamster on another day, litter boxes on the next, fish water changes on a different day. We have it all scheduled out so we don't have to do a ton of stuff every day! Feeding time is fun though. My boyfriend and I each grab a bag of hay and go around and everyone wheeps for joy. Having 6 pigs scream at you is adorable, let me tell you. It's nice when your animals hear just the tiniest bit of your voice in the morning and everyone goes nuts. Meowing and wheeping and all the fish start freaking out when they see you. I love it! If you have the money and the space then I would suggest it to anyone, haha. We adopted everyone but Penny. I mean everyone, the cats, the crabs, the pigs, the hamster, the mice, everyone, so I would say that we have a pretty good thing going.

I'm jealous! I'd live in a zoo given the opportunity, but at the moment I'm constrained by the fact that I'm going to be moving around a lot for the next couple years and landlords aren't exactly happy with large quantities of animals, generally. Once I'm settled down, I'm finding a place that will at least let me do what I want with caged pets, but my ultimate goal is to buy a house so no one can tell me what to do! :P

The place I'm at right now doesn't allow dogs. You can have as many caged animals as you want. We are supposed to only have one cat, but I have an anxiety disorder so I was able to get Gigi signed off as a therapy animal :P We're gonna be here for quite a few years so we figured it would work out fine.

Penny and Petunia are having free time in the kitchen with Gigi and I'm sitting next to them supervising. Is it weird for cats and guinea pigs to be best friends? Gigi just lays down in their enclosed spot and they just go and eat next to her, play around her, I don't know, I find it a little strange but then again, animals can have really weird relationships so it shouldn't surprise me.
