Hi Im a new guinea pig owner and i need to make a travel carrier for my little boy. I can't afford to buy a new one so please help. I have purses and was just going to put a piece of cardboard in the bottom then an old towel. Is it safe for me to do this?

You can put a towel in the bottom of a laundry basket!

The purse isn't a good idea. A guinea pig could get overheated quickly in something without ventilation. If you have a Goodwill near you, they sell carriers for a few dollars. You can even call your local animal shelter and I'll bet they sell used one really cheap.

I used a large cardboard box ( a toaster oven box) before I had a carrier. I put a towel at the bottom and then bedding and hay over it. It was a four hour round trip and worked fine.

Pickle's vet was two hours away and he did fine in the car in the box. it was open top with one flap own to shade him from the window. He nibbled his hay and was generally alright.

Just make sure you put them in something that he can't escape from. I had a guinea pig get out of a box in my car.

I am not sure what type of cage you have but you could use grids and left over coro. Since you would be in the care for 6+ hours I would make it at least 2x1 but 2x2 is better.

That would work! :) just make sure you put grids on the bottom as well. I would zip tie the grids together, instead of using connectors. They fall of way too easily.. Also the top edges of the coroplast to the grids just for that extra security since it will be a travel cage.
