Need help!

Hi i am new to guinea pigs. I have bought 2 males, at differnt times. At first they seemd allright and they just kept chasing each other and humping and all that good stuff. I looked into it and they say its normal. Well I put them in the same cage together and for the first cuple days. NO PROBLEMS. Well for the last cuple days they have been fighting non-stop. Even during floortime. I have tried alot of things that people have told me to try. Like give them both a bath together. I even let them fight it out like, one of them told me. The result was one guniea pig got cut on the foot pretty bad. After that we split them apart untill "floortime". They still progress to get worse. They wont even "popcorn" anymor. They just stare each other down chattering there teeth. And just last night, one of the guinea pigs got my hand when i went to go put him back into the cage. I have a gash in my fingure and probly need stiches. But what im trying to figure out, is why would they be so aggressive towards each other. Post some help please

-Oh and i bought the 2x5 cage to see if it helps. Should be here in a cuple days!

@Brotherhood Part of the problem could very well be that your cage is too small. Boars tend to need a good amount of room when it comes to sorting out dominance.
If you separated them, then I wouldn't put them together for floor time, it will only stress them out.
It's good that you bought a C&C cage, hopefully that helps!

As for him biting you, it could be that you smelled like food, or it could be that he's injured or has some kind of parasite such as mites and it hurt when you touched him in a certain area.

Sometimes guinea pigs just don't get along with other guinea pigs - sometimes they work it out.

I would definitely say that puberty is a pain in the butt having gone through it with three girlies (I can just imagine with boarly boars). It turns even the best of pigs into Jeckyl and Hyde.

My advice would be don't force it. It might very well be that these two boys just won't get along. The 2x5 cage will definitely help - you may find that you'll have to keep them separated for the rest of their lives. Make sure you have two of everything and opposite sides of the cage so each boy can have "his" space. If you're still finding that there's a lot of fighting I would definitely just seperating them for good!

Just got the cage today. Havent really got to see how they react in it. But as i have been told theve only fought a cuple times. Sence ive been home it feels like theres not any stress in the cage like before! Great buy i think

I have three males and always chasing to throwing around dominance but always sleep in the same castle. I hope it works out well with u the more room the better the more items the better the distraction of being bored and picking on each other.

Beautiful piggs

. My boyfriend originally got 2 boars that got along great for a couple of months with the occasional fight. After about 4ish months the fights kept getting worse and worse and they started making each other bleed. I took one boar home and got him neutered (2 months ago) and got him 2 girls. before he was neutered he was the most aggressive boy iv'e seen but since hes been neutered hes calmed down quite a bit. My boyfriend just got hit boar neutered (1 week ago) and he's staying at my place to be closer to the vet. i have the cages next to each other and although they aren't 'friends' they don't seem to fight as much now. My best advise if they keep fighting is to either get them neutered (if ya have the money) or maybe just put a divider in the middle of the cage so they can still socialise with each other but you dont need to worry about them getting hurt. P.s I dont know if this is fact or not but i noticed that because we left them together for so long they started really not liking eachother, so i think the less fights they have the better theyll be in the long run

Unlike other animals like dogs, neutering guinea pigs will in most cases not alter their behavior in any way. I wouldn't advice anyone to neuter based on aggression. If the pigs are going through puberty, it's possible to successfully re-introduce them again once they are both over 12-15 months.

I guess that must've been it. But I still recon they are holding a grudge bacause of bad experiences. what do you recon?
