I was just in my local B&q and saw this, thought it might be the same as the uhal blankets you guys get?

Uhaul pads are moving blankets that are simply made of recycled, compressed, shredded, denim. This reads as fleece, so I'm not sure it would work.

It is apparently used as a dust sheet to absorb any paint drips xx

You could try them and see how absorbent they are. Fleece is just a general term for soft fabric, some are 100% polyester, some are cotton.
