I read somewhere (can't remember where) that if you don't give your guinea pig an igloo or similar they'll be more social because they're constantly exposed to you.

Is this true? Is it a good idea or do guinea pigs need to hide from us sometimes?

No, that isn't a good idea at all.
Guinea pigs are naturally prey animals, if they have no where to hide they will feel very exposed and in the open.
They need a type of hidey.
