Could you post a picture it would be much easier to tell, a lot of people mistake calico guinea pigs for tri coloured ones. Is the baby a female or male because all calico's are female and males are mutations

That's cats, not piggies. :) The gene that has the red and black fur alleles for cats is located on the X chromosome, hence calico-ism being X-linked in kitties. In piggies I have no idea where it is, but it doesn't display an X-linked inheritance pattern and certainly therefore isn't located on the X chromosome.

There are a few color varieties in guinea pigs that come in threes. The tortoiseshell and white is the most "calico" of the colors. Lots of other guinea pig colors come in threes. You'll have to show us a picture so we can tell you.

In pigs that's simply known as a tri-colored pig. [MENTION=22877]stray hares[/MENTION] is right, "calico" is cats, not pigs.
