I got Monty from the shelter a few weeks ago and I have a feeling that he has put on weight since he got here! I am not sure if he is "overweight" though (the vet didn't mention anything at his checkup). But how on earth can a piggy gain weight from eating Timothy Hay, pellets, and an orange slice?? His coat looks much shiny-er since I brought him home too :).

It's probably the hay and decent food. Most pigs that end up in shelters have never seen a decent meal.

He'll get used to the better food and slow down soon.

I hope you are feeding him more than just orange slices. They can get overweight from eating crap pellets or wayyyyy too many pellets and from fattening fruits and veggies.

As I posted, I am feeding him more then just orange slices. His pellets are from an organic store and his hay is a fresh mix from the HRS. He only gets 1/4 cup of pellets a day. For other veggies he gets lettuce, some radishes, and carrots. A strawberry or a cherry every once and a while for variety. His main diet is hay though. :).

Radishes should only be fed a couple times per month. Carrots, usually every other day but no more than one baby carrot per day. Lettuce is great. Have you tried things like bell pepper and cilantro which can be fed daily in addition to the lettuce?
