So my pieces came in today and we started construction on Bela's new cage!
Its 2 feet 5 inches wide by 3 feet 7 inches long. It has a loft, but as this moment (as in tonight) she doesn't have a ramp up there. I have purchased and conditioned (washed, rewashed, washed some more, then one more time for good measure) fleece and towels for the absorbent part. My questions left are this:

1) What can I use for the flooring over the grids on the loft (I can't get coroplast in my area).

2) What can I use for a padding around the cages sides just to ensure there is no chewing or gnawing of the bars?

3) For those who use separate pieces for their lining around the bottom of the cages, do you wash these as well? Could I possibly make some kind of "Pillow case" (so to speak, removable type cover) and use pool noodles just making sure that the noodles are completely covered and not accessible?

If you really want something to come up the side, you could fold over about 6" of material, sew it so it's in a tube, then cut where the bars would be so you can feed the fabric through and put a dowel through the tube parts on the other side to hold it in place (hope that makes sense)

As for the top level of the cage... You could probably take a piece of cardboard cut to fit the shape of the loft and then cover it with a trash bag so it doesn't get ruined when your piggy wees on it.

BTW - once you get your ramp you need to cover the open space with a grid overlap so your piggy doesn't accidentally walk off of the loft and fall. Does the ramp you ordered have sides?

The ramp will come off of the front for a few inches then make a turn and come down to the ground. Like a L shape... (does that make sense?) I will grid in around the ramp once it's finished. The ramp (so I'm planning) will have sides. Anyway in my mind that's how it's gonna play out, but in real life I can't imagine what it will look like. Do you have suggestions on what to make it out of? Anymore suggestions are GREATLY appreciated...

You can buy them here (http://www.guineapigzone.com/c-and-c-cages-guinea-pigs/2-decks-a-ramps/45-reinforced-cage-ramp), or make them out of grids, or wood, or I've thought about making one out of this (http://www.amazon.com/Suncast-SB24-Gutter-Downspout-Splash/dp/B0015SBOV0/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1341727417&sr=8-11&keywords=rain+spout) but that won't work if you want it to change directions...Also you can use rain gutter pieces like this (http://www.homedepot.com/Building-Materials-Roofing-Gutters-Gutters/h_d1/N-5yc1vZc0yd/R-100061750/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&storeId=10051&superSkuId=202938891), or pvc pipe but if you use pipe you need to have holes drilled into it for air and something inside for traction... I hope you find something that works well! I'm sure others can give you good ideas too, or you can look at pictures (there's a category just for ramps)
