Just curious as to what other people are doing. I hate the idea of tossing that much organic matter into a landfill, so I'm starting a compost pile. I switched to fleece mostly because of the volume of shavings that were getting tossed....

Does anyone here compost? Or what other ideas do you have, beyond chucking it into the garbage?

My mom uses the used shavings for her plants. They used to go on our compost pile, but it's huge now. So now she uses it as bedding in the garden.

We go through loads of shavings with all the pigs and hamsters I have. They all just go in the bin though as we don't have anywhere else to put them.

Our local council have started a 3 bin system:

1 blue box for recyclables (cans, glass, paper, HDPE plastic)
1 brown bin for cardboard and garden waste
1 grey bin for anything else that doesn't fit into the above category

According to them, small animal waste can go in the brown bin. Pretty good, but I use fleece and have very little waste bar newspapers and poops.

I have a compost near my garden. I dump my shavings in there and when I redo the garden, I rotetill (Sp?) into the dirt that's already there. My plants are happy :)

My 6x2 gives me about one garbage bag and a half of shavings a week. I just dump it, as the compost is not big enough for that much.

Thanks for the feedback. Now if I can just motivate myself enough to build a compost bin....
