I don't think my guinea pig likes me

I've been holding and petting my new guinea pig a lot. I've had her for a week and she always makes bad noises when I pet her and she has bitten me a few times when I've picked her up. She hasn't bitten hard at all but she shouldn't be biting at all. She is the only guinea pig I have right now but I may get another one after I get a job. How can I make her like me and would getting a second guinea pig make her happier and maybe like me better?

Maybe she will feel more comfortable in time?

As far as your piggy biting you... look at www.cavyspirit.com/biting.htm sometimes piggies will bite being picked up! one of mine did before, I dont think any piggy "likes" being picked up much, but after they are out of their cage and in your lap or arms, they are fine.

But you say you have had her for only 1 week? The last guinea pig i had "Rascal" It took a few weeks for him to get more used to his surroundings at home! After a little bit longer, Rascal soon became very lovable and friendly, and he ended up making a great companion!sometimes I think, it just takes more time to get used to a new home then others....

as far as ... bad noises? what kind of noises are they? I know most guinea pigs will make little squeaks and chubble sounds when you hold them, and purr alot too.. maybe thats it?

congrats on your new friend!

rdwick, I do think that having a friend helps them get used to everything faster.

As for biting, I agree with animemoon, piggies don't like to be picked up or put down, but they like being petted. You just have to learn how to hold them so they don't get a chance to bite, and also to pick them up when they are ready for it. We hold them on towels usually and they do better when they can bite on the towel during transportation.

Read cavyspirit.com if you haven't, to find out if you have everything your piggie needs to be happy. And then be patient, because they are so loving once they come around! And they make the cutest sounds! Someone uploaded their sounds on this forum, so you can hear happy vs. annoyed sounds.
