This is not for someone who can not take bloody pictures.

Hello,

My guinea pig (we call him Lee) have this somewhat big wound under his ears. It's a bit wet, and does not look good.

1. It does not look like a bite.
2. They scratch, but I don't think a scratch can do that much wound.
3. I do not know if it can mites that can cause this. Your expertise or knowledge will help.
4. Applied Betadine (anti septic) in the wound. I am planning to shave some hair around the wound today.
5. Nails never been cut down (they can scratch pretty bad)

I will appreciate your help.

I would get your guinea pig to an exotic vet ASAP. That wound looks really nasty and I'm sure your guinea pig is in pain.

I agree with pinky. You pig needs a vet. You can't treat that at home. It's bad.

Thanks. We have an appointment with the vet tomorrow (actually 12 hours from now). Hopefully all goes well with Lee.

Vet said Lee could have got it by scratching. They provided the ointment and cut his nails as well.

The vet said it was just correct that I applied betadine to the wound.

Poor little dear! That wound looks serious and quite susceptible to infection so I am very glad it is under treatment. I would look on the guinea lynx site for every piece of information on treating wounds and scratches, so you are well informed and can really enter into the treatment the vet prescribes, as well as benefit from other piggie carers' experience.

Did the vet have any ideas as to why he would scratch himself so bad? I would think either mites or perhaps a bite that wasn't healing quickly.

What kind of ointment did the vet give you?
