Hiya,
My name is Rebecca, but you can called me Kay if you what too Kay is my middle name
I am new to breeding guinea pigs and am here to learn more about it. I have been breeding rabbits for some years and wish to expand into guinea pigs.
I have cerebral palsy which means that I get easily confused and also find it difficult when writing things. Please understand this when reading my posts.
I look forward to getting to know you all and learning as much as I can about breeding and showing Guinea pigs.
Hugs
Rebecca.

You've come to the wrong place to learn about breeding, as this is a pro-rescue, anti-breeding forum. You would likely learn a ton about guinea pig care here though (including why it's contrary to good guinea pig care to be breeding them), so I hope you will stick around for that reason.

Hi, Rebecca, welcome to the forum. This is indeed an excellent resource for proper guinea pig care, but as blackarrow pointed out, breeding them is actually a direct contradiction to properly caring for guinea pigs. Perhaps you don't realize just how many guinea pigs (and rabbits) there are in shelters that face possible euthanasia? Because I'm sure that if you did understand what a problem that is, you wouldn't want to be contributing to that problem by creating more lives that may face that same fate.

Please, stay, and learn. Hopefully in doing so you'll come to the conclusion that we all have - that there is no good reason to be breeding - but rescuing on the other hand, is very rewarding and very much worth the time and effort.

Hi there and welcome to GPC. Since you are an admitted breeder, I am going to be very straightforward with you and give you the link to our policy regarding members who breed and/or show.

Why do you breed rabbits?

How are they housed?

Hello,

As others have stated, I hope you'll stay around and learn everything you can about guinea pigs and why breeding them is so very wrong, not only because it contributes to the overpopulation problem and concerns of that nature, but because even a single pregnancy can be deadly to a female guinea pig (also called a sow) of any age, but especially so after she is a year old. Therefore, putting a poor little sow through multiple pregnancies amounts to animal cruelty.

Also, I have to tell you that I too have Cerebral Palsy (the spastic type, and have always been completely wheelchair bound). And while I can't say I know everything there is to know about it, I do know that Cerebral Palsy by itself does not cause confusion and/or difficulty putting words together coherently. Some with CP have such spastic (tight) or ataxic (floppy) muscle tone that they can't hold a pencil or a pen and physically write, but this does not prevent them from forming coherent sentences and using assistive devices to type. I, for instance, can write and hold my guinea pig and clean her cage with a smallish shovel thing and hold most other things in my hands but I can't button my shirt or pants and have to use 1 finger to type and can't do lots of other little and big things, such as you know, walk. These are just physical limitations though and have nothing to do with my mental ability.

You may have Cerebral Palsy PLUS Dyslexia PLUS some degree of mental impairment, but those are all separate conditions and you shouldn't lead people to believe that your problems with confusion and writing are caused by Cerebral Palsy. It just feeds the automatic assumption a lot of people make that Cerebral Palsy = mental retardation.

I also feel like that by telling people of your condition in your first post you are asking them to kind of excuse you for anything you post about that is not in the best interest of your animals.

I don't mean to be too rude, and I do sincerely hope you'll stay around this forum and learn and love your guinea pigs without breeding them.

I am very glad to see this post and hope you will stick to this resolution. Did your little girl Flower end up having babies, or was she not pregnant after all?

If you're interested in rescuing and helping homeless animals, you should find a rescue or shelter near you. Most have volunteer opportunities where you can interact with animals, engage in their care, or help with other duties. It takes many people to run a rescue or shelter efficiently, so I'm sure they would appreciate your help! You can find your nearest rescue by searching on Petfinder.

If you have truly made the switch from breeding to non-breeding, please make sure you have your males and females separated and that you are providing proper care. Here are some helpful links:

Why is breeding of guinea pigs (and all animals, for that matter) frowned upon? Read THIS.

Welcome to GPC Forum! I hope you'll read up more on proper care so you can be the best owner you can.
