Texture of Timothy Hay

Hey everyone. I currently have 3 goats for which I buy bales of Timothy Hay. I think they hay comes from Canada (I live in the US). When guina pig hay is described, it's referred to as "soft". I wouldn't exactly describe the hay I get as being "soft". I'd like for them to be able to use the same hay if possible. What exactly am I looking for? Should the pieces of hay be soft enough to bend without breaking? Now I'm feeling stupid but I don't want my piggy to get a hay related injury!

Yes. It should not be sticky at all. it should be long strands of mostly green with a brown tinge. It should smell like grass, not moldy or dusty.

Goats are able to consume a lower quality of hay than pigs. You may need to find the nearest store that sells Oxbow to you, or order from Oxbow or Kleenmama's or American Pet Diner.

The timothy your buying may be 1st cut timmy. Usually 2nd and 3rd cut is much softer.
