My black nailed piggie wears his nails a little longer than my other pig. I've got the same problem so I just trim of a little bit off at a time. Cut more frequently as well.

You can just bring the pig to the vet to get clipped.

If you trim them at home, keep cornstarch or plain flour on hand to stop accidental bleeding. You can also try having someone shine a flashlight through the nail while you clip so you can see the quick...the bloodvessels running through the live part of the nail.

We use large human-type nail clippers, they are easy for us to control.

Good luck!

Just clip off the tip. If they're really long, cut the tips again in 2 weeks.

Take out your piggies traveling bag. Put piggies in bag. Get in car. Drive to vet. Hand over piggies to Tech. Wait 15 minutes. Pay $30.00. Get piggies back from Tech. Say thank you. Take piggies home.

Hold the piggies middle againts you with your left arm and hold a foot in you left hand and clip with your right do both on the side facing away from you. Then turn the pig around and do the other paws. Keep flour on hand and a veggies to distract them helps too.

Hahaha. You guys are so funny. I wrap the piggie in a towel and give my husband the clippers. I feed veggies, he clips quickly. We stick out one paw at a time. The piggies are preoccupied with the lettuce/carrot, etc. Like when we gave the kids lollipops and you had to cut the hair really quick before the lollipop ran out or the hair got on it :).

I would ask your neighbor vet-friend to show you. That way you know next time. I would hold them in a towel, clip the tips right before the nail curves up. There are pictures on how to do this on the net. Type in "how to clip cat/pig nails" That should get you some info. Good Luck!

Nail clipping is scary if you've never done it.
But it really is no big deal as long as you don't cut too much.
I picked up one of my pigs the other day, and his front nails had
spiraled together! I didn't think they would grow that fast. They
never did before, but I think they grow faster as they get older.

Yes, you can use corn starch or flour if you don't have quik stop. Just dip the bleeding nail in flour.
