when you build your cage do you put tops on it?

If you don't have other animals like cats or dogs that can harm thenm, you don't need a top. Guinea pigs are not climbers.

I don't have a top on mine but i also don't have any other animals in my house(Ok I have fish but does that really count? lol)

I have a toddler who loves the piggies and for their safety, I put a top on the cage.

I have a cat, and while she is good with the guinea pigs, I chose to put a top on. I have a 2 x 5 and did the closet shelf lid made with Home Depot shelving. It works great.
