I am wanting to ensure the best sizing possible for 5 girls. Right now we have a 2X5 with a 2X2 kitchen and 1X2 loft on the second floor. I am thinking of enlarging it to a 3X5 and keeping the second floor the same. Is this going to be big enough? The space it is in prevents me from going any longer than 5 grids and 3 wide is about the max as well but I can go up....suggestions anyone?

2x7 is the right size cage for 5 pigs.

Please don't get another sow if you don't have the room.

3x5 is bigger than 2x7.
It's fine for 6 sows.
Is the 2x2 loft going to be the kitchen? It might be too small for 6.
You might need to add another kitchen area to the other side of the cage.

A 3x5 is bigger than a 2x7, Laura. Yes, a 3x5 will be good. But right now you actually do have a 2x7, including your kitchen. But it's the bare minimum. They would be very happy with a 3x5. 3 grids wide is more square than long and skinny, which makes for better laps. :)

Edit: Oops, sorry Lissie, we posted at the same time! Oh, and about the kitchen, maybe you could make a 3x5 with a 2x3 kitchen. That would make more room for the kids to eat!

I have 4 sows in a 3x4, and (for me personally) it seems like that isn't even enough room.

Really? I thought my four sows are a bit cramped in a 3x5. Six? :eye-poppi

Well, I don't know, as I don't even have pigs. But a 2x7 definitely is smaller than a 3x5. If you want to just get an estimate of the size (to see which is bigger) you can just multiply the two numbers together. Like a 2x7=14 sq feet. and 3x5=15 sq feet. But this isn't exact as the grids are actually 14 inches long.

2 x 7 = 19 sq feet, 3 x 5 = 20.4
