View Full Version : Hello - From NY and interested in piggies

Hi, I'm a Queens, NY resident looking to adopt 2 piggies. Currently, I'm working with my landlord to make sure that I'm not breaking any lease agreements (I don't want to have my 2 babies and then be forced to find them a new home).

I've just joined after reading as much of the site as possible and hope to meet other people in my area that may know where to adopt and the best local places to get Guinea Pig supplies. Additionally, I'm hoping to get all the answers to my many questions before I commit to adopting two pigs.:)

Welcome to GPC! Thanks for chosing adoption and doing your research. Hope you enjoy the site.

Hi! I'm right next door a borough away in Bay Ridge. :)

There is a nice shelter here in Brooklyn (I think the area it is in is called Kensington - fancy real estate name!) that has many guinea pigs - young and old - that need a good home. The adoption fee is $10. I know it's a bit of a train ride from Queens but it would be better to get from a rescue than a pet store. I just spoke with them last weekend, so I am sure they still have lots of pigs available. Here's the link:

Sean Casey Animal Shelter (http://scarnyc.org/)

and their PetFinder link:

PetFinder - Sean Casey (http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=13887610)

The only other shelters I have found so far that rescue guinea pigs are in New Jersey. Hopefully there are more in NYC, but I haven't found them yet.

For supplies, I buy online from Drs. Foster & Smith or buy from a store that doesn't carry animals in the neighborhood.
