It says Female is too old to become pregnant so no worry about babies. Is this true? I thought that a piggy could always get pregnant.

Ha! I was curious about this a while back, not because I had ANY intention of breeding, but just because I am curious by nature. I asked a mod (I didn't want to start a riot as I was quite new at this point) in a PM if guinea pigs went trough menopause similarly the way humans do. This was the reply I received:

" As far as I am aware sows can get pregnant at any age. It's not a good idea for older sows to get pregnant if they've never been before because the risks increase the older they get."

A guinea pig is fertile at ANY AGE unless they are neutered/spayed.

Like all other animals, a very old guinea pigs is likely to be less fertile.

However, there is no possible way for this poster to know that this pig could not get pregnant. Older guinea pigs can get pregnant, and when they do, they very often have complications.

I imagine there are medical issues preventing or decreasing the risks for pregnancy but I've read stories of 5 or 6 year old sows becoming pregnant or 8 year old boars impregnating sows.

I would not just say they are infertile unless they have been neutered.

Yes, that is exactly what I meant.
