I am interested if anyone purchases brands of fleece, how much you pay for it, and how well it has performed. :?:
I'd like to gather some information on this subject and actually compare how varied the market is. I feel like VetBed is extremely expensive where as other brands are relatively affordable.
I'm looking for fleece that is different than buying a blanket or a fabric (i.e. VetBed or Pro-Fleece brands, etc.). This is the veterinary fleece or whelping bedding type. It is usually more than 1/4" thick and comes in grades of density, for example, 1300 grams per square meter.
Here's my input: I use Sleepy Paws and I think I paid $20 for a 20"x30" piece. I use three in the cage and cut them to fit. It performs good. It really keeps the pigs dry and washes nicely. I wash it every three or four days and have no fraying or shrinkage. I think it would last a week between washing, but I have a bunch of mucky boys that put boar stink all over it. Any longer than a few days and I would need a gas mask. The trick is to get a good absorbent layer under it. I would only purchase again if I could get a better deal.
As far as other brands, I have looked at the Drymate brand and wondered if it worked, but have never purchased it. I checked out VetBed (in Canada) and was put off by how expensive it was. I have also looked at a brand called Jonart, thought it was a good deal ($23.00 for 30" x 60"), but I haven't got a present need to replace the fleece I have. I am also looking at getting the fabric outright, like from a fabric supplier, but this search has proved somewhat difficult.
