Conditions Hot Wheels

So after a very extensive workup including X-Rays, I'm very poor, but it looks as though Hot Wheels may have the early beginnings of scurvy? She was not entirely sure, but also wasn't sure if he may have hurt himself on a blanket or something. He has gotten tangled up in my lanyard once or twice, so she was uncertain. She didn't feel any swelling anywhere, but she agreed he didn't seem quite right. We discussed his diet at length and she seemed to feel he may be lacking vitamin C and recommended Kale and Oranges and to look for different pellets. He is on a Vitamin C enriched pellet that my Instructional Assistant brought in, but he doesn't seem to care for it much. He rarely ever eats it and mostly subsists on Timothy Hay. I told her about my slow introduction of veggies as he seemed resistant. She was concerned about this and so there ya have it. After almost $200 we aren't entirely certain but she did give him a pain shot to see if it would help and the diet recommendation and told me to call tomorrow and let her know how he was. If he's not better in the next couple of days, we'll have to do blood work. Poor HW.

That vet doesn't seem very cavy save.

Scury is often quite noticable. With labored breathing and crusty eye's and nose.

Lethargy, weakness, unwillingness to move
Hopping instead of walking, enlarged or stiff limb joints
Not eating, loss of weight
Diarrhea
Eye and nose discharge
Rough coat
Tenderness to touch (may cry out in pain if restrained), poor flesh condition

Do NOT feed oranges every day. They can lead to mouth sores and aren't very high in Vit. C.

Kale is VERY high in Vit. A and should only be fed 1-2 times a week. Feed extra green bell pepper and lettuce.

What are the pellets? Could you list the ingrediants?

Okay..... sigh..... I'm so relieved because I can fix it!! He's depressed and lonely. OMG. I am so happy. Not that he's depressed and lonely but because I have a friend for him. I brought her here today in the temporary cage and they are side by side in their temp cages.... he is so perky! I let them snuggle while I held one and my daughter held the other. And he was purring and talking and he is right chipper now! I am going to schedule his neuter asap so he can snuggle. But I want to wait until next week to make sure he is feeling okay for sure.

I'm glad to hear he is okay, but make sure that the new pig goes through a 3 week quarantine period to rule out any infections or diseases she might have. Also, make he's not in the same cage as the female for 3 to 4 weeks to make sure that all the sperm dies off. You don't want any accidental pregnancies.

Haha I'm very happy you figured that out.

You should have done a three week quarentine to make sure that the female wasn't sick....I guess you kind of blew that up though. LOL.

Please, don't have supervised playtime. It only takes one hump for the female to get pregnant. Make sure you bring the cavy to a different specialist.

And yes, as NicholsS said, you have to wait three weeks for the sperm to die off before placing it with the female.

Also, where did you adopt the little darling from?
