I was just wondered what everyone here thinks should be the minimum standards for two pigs. I know that it's 2x4 but I wondered what peoples oppinions was on this, should it be more, maybe less? Just a curious discussion really.

I think 3x4 is the minimum I would go for two pigs.

Actually the minimum for 2 pigs is 2x3. I don't think I would ever put 2 pigs in a 2x3 because 2x3 for one pig seems a tiny bit small. I think 2x3 is fine for one pig though because it's bigger than a pet store cage but doesn't take up too much room. But I would go for 3x3 at the least for 2 pigs.

Yeah I think 2x3 is too small for two but fine for one.

I think 2x3 is ok for two females and I think 2x3 is OK for two males as a night cage but I would never put two pigs in a permanent 2x3 cage.

I think you should provide the biggest size cage that you can financially and time wise handle. If you spend more money than you can afford on your cage and fleece/bedding, then you will not have money for spoiling your piggie and buying them everything they need. If you make a huge cage and then can't spend the time needed to clean and care for it then they would be better off in a slightly smaller cage!

I think it really depends on the money, time, and space you have, and the personality of your piggie!

I think a 2x3 for 2 girls and a 2x4 or 2x5 or 3x3 for guys.My 2 girls are on a 2x3 and it still allows one to popcorn and run laps(other never has never will). So the other pig is out of her way.

If I were you, I would go with a little bit bigger. (Even if it is by 1/2 of a grid)
For 2 boars, go with a 2x5 or larger, for 2 sows, go with a 2x4. But always remember, the bigger, the better!

I currently have a 2x4 cage for 2 of my boys. I just don't think it's big enough for them to run around. We're going to Lowe's to get a few more supplies to upgrade it to a 3x4 cage for them.

I would say for 2 boars, it depends on personalitys. But I would prefer atleast a 3x4, or 3x5. My boys have a 4x5.

The minimums are on the home page. It's a 2x3. But because boars are a bit more territorial they need a bit more space so the minimum we recommend is a 2x4 for 2 boars.

Oh this thread isn't for me personally I've got two girls and a single male already in cages I was just curious really if people agreed with the 2x3/2x4.

I agree about the boars, although my male lives alone I dont think I could trust him since he is so dominant even with us in a 3x4+2x2 and 3x1 balcony with another male:eye-poppi Luckerily he can chat with the girls though.

My cages are in my album (click the camera up top ^) and even the girls cages I don't think I could make any smaller because I can't not muck out every day or the poo just builds up way too much as it is, thats why I was interested in what everyone elses minimum standards were since I should imagine 2x3's are hard to keep clean...but I probably just own mucky pigs lmao :sarcastic

Oh, I have a couple of mucky boys too. I had my recently adopted boys in a 2x4 cage. It seemed all I was noticing was the poops. We upgraded last night to a 3x4 and can tell a difference already. My boy Tribble was really shy and always hiding in the pigloo when I would feed them veggies in the old cage, but this morning he was at the food bowl waiting for me in the bigger cage. I was so excited he loves the enlarged cage already!

My 2 girls are in a 2.5 x 4 and I can't imagine going any smaller.

I think that anything smaller than a 2x3 is too small for even a single to run and popcorn properly. A 2x3 seems to just about do it - when empty. I certainly wouldn't house two pigs in a 2x3.

But space isn't the only thing that matters.... "enrichment" does too. By the time you have added in at least one hidey, and one other toy a 2x3 looks too cramped to run.

My girls have either 2 pigloos, or 1 pigloo and one cozie, plus their hay box. They also get cardboard tubes when we have them. Even so - I still keep looking at their cage and thinking it seems small....

I have 2 boars who have fallen out <sigh> and I use 3x2 cages for each of them.

My other 2 boars are in a 4.5x2.5 High Level C&C.

My 4 girls are in a 7x2 Hutch, it was essentially a 5x2 hutch but we adapted it to 7x2 with mdf to accomodate my 2 baby sows.

This is just my opinion of course, but I suspect having different levels and cage areas is very helpful with boars getting along. I've got three levels including one that turns a corner into another room (2x4, 1x4, 1x1and3/4) so they can get away from eachother if they are on eachother's last nerve. Knock on wood, it seems to be working. They are still quite bonded.

I had our 2 boars in a 2x4 it worked for about 2 months then they started to fight so I built a 2x6 and they are as happy as can be.
