Do you guys think that there would be any way to make a Hamster cage out of the grids that have the super close together mesh spacing? im not sure can u help give me ideas!!!

I think it would be very difficult since the mesh grids I've seen have circles cut out in the corners so you can snap them together.

I think people have done this before. You can probably find pictures and such in the "cages for other pets" section in the cage gallery. ;)

i looked and i didnt see any for hamsters only rats and ferrets

Actually, I think you could if you put the coroplast inside the grids, it is do-able.

Sorry Mommy of one but I have to disagree here... coroplast is quite soft and hamsters are horrendous chewers - half the base would be gone within a day if they could get to the edges.

There is a thicker grade of coroplast, (actually probably several). It may be appropriate for the bottom of a hamster cage. I couldn't get a sheet into my car, since it doesn't bend, but I think it would make a much sturdier base for smaller critters.

Really?
I used to have a home made hamster cage like a C&C with coro and it lasted through out two syrians and five cambells, without a problem.
I would go with the thicker coro though.
The thicker it is the better.
Maybe you can borrow a friends car or something to get it home?

i have been thinking i and i have thought of using shelving instead of cubes and the shelving whould be the very narrow kind with 1/4 in spacing and maybe for the base i could use coro but i would put it on the out side of the shelving by like an inch so lil goldy teeth cant get to it

Sounds like a good idea to me.
Keep us posted.
:)

i'll post pictures as soon as im done!

Have you started yet?
(Just curious.)
Your hamster is going to be soo happy!

no im still in planning but will probly start this weekene

This is very interesting. I would love to see the finished product. My only concern would be if he could get out. My hamster is an escape artist, lol. He would figure out some McGuyver way to leave.
