Momo has lost some hair around his shoulder/front hari area this few days. He doesn't seem to have mites or mange but I am not sure as I can not see them on the fur and the skin. But he does scratch a little bit. everything seems normal, he's eating, running, doing everything he does everyday. Can anyone tell me what is would be and how should I treat it? Should I take him to the vet? The vet in Albany creek is way too far from my house and I do not have a car so it is quite impossbile to visit them.

If I should treat him with ivomec/revolution or any other thing, could anyone suggest how and where could I get this?

Thanks so much for helping!

I am going through a hair loss problem with one of my guinea pigs too (Teddy-see my recent posts on his trip to the vet.) It can be hard to self diagnosis-I had no idea mine had developed a skin infection from a cut. He is on two doctor prescribed antibiotics and a probiotic. I would strongly suggest finding some way to get him to the vet. I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks HowiethGreat. Then can I just bring him to any vet (eg to the nearest vet) since many ppl say the piggy should be send to those who specialised in small animals. As I said since I don't hv my own transport it would quite impossible to visit vet that are in a distance. but I am also afraid the nearest vey can not diagnosis the problem too.

I would do research on guinea lynx and make notations. Write down what medications and antibiotics can be lethal to guineas. If the vet attempts to prescribe one, tell him that it can be fatal. My vet just informed me last week that penicillian is lethal if given to guinea pigs orally but they tolerate it fairly well when given it through an injection. I would take some notes, take him/her to the vet and try posting on here what you were told. The best is always going to a cavy savy vet, but if you postively cannot go to one, I would at least go to a vet that you can go to, and come prepared with notes. Let us know what happens.
