:) Hello everyone !

I just joined and want to say hi to everyone here.

My name is Danny and I live in Vancouver.

Although I just joined, I've been reading the forum for few weeks now,

I got lots of helpful advice from here, can't thank you people enough.

Anyway, I'll be checking in on regular basis, and hoping to share

what's what with our lovely piggies.

Here is my piggy, I got her a week ago, and she finally started to

open up to me, it was very special experience. They don't just follow

humans like dogs, you need to 'earn' their affection, eh ? lol

Her name is 'missy little piggy'. She's having some floor time.

She didn't come out of her hide out for like an hour !

But she finally started to running around, sooooo cute !

There was a door stopper(springly thingly that prevents door from

getting slam-open). And she jumped over like it was huddle lol...

Thanks, she's a cuttie.

I bought her from local petsmart. She was living with 4 other piggies

in a very small cage. So I am making 2 story large C%C cage now !

If you've been reading the forums for a few weeks now, why didn't you decide to adopt instead of buying from a store?

hm?

Was I supposed to adopt her?

What's wrong with buying her from a store?

What were you reading on this site? Because almost every single thread you read will tell you the answer to that question.

Okay, I will break it down for you.

If you bought your piggy from a petstore, that means it came from a guinea pig mill...aka breeders.

That means that your guinea pig most likely has a URI and also has mites in her/his skin. You will need to take her to a vet. ASAP.

Also, I truly hope you are in the process of building a C&C Cage.

I was mostly reading informative threads; bedding, foods, cages etc.

while I was searching for those info, I haven't read a single post about

adoption, hence what you are saying is either incorrect or exaggeration.

No matter how important adoption may be,

it is still my decision to buy or adopt, not yours.

I bought a pet and I'm doing my best to take care of her,

there is nothing wrong with that, period.

Simple 'welcome' would been nice

instead of your hostile, unfriendly message.

I was just saying hello, you need to chill out. seriously.

I already said I am building large C&C cage, you quoted that message

yourself.

I'm sorry that you think I'm rude. However, when someone says they've been reading this site for "a few weeks" I can only believe that they've read enough to know that this site is extremely anti-breeding and most of the posters are STRONG believers of adopting/rescuing a pet.

You're right, it was your choice to buy your guinea pig. But now your petstore guinea pig will have a lot of health problems.

Trust me, my adoption comment is NEITHER incorrect or exaggeration.

Just search for "adoption" in the forums.

I said truly hope because MANY people come to this site with intentions of building a C&C Cage and then back out because of numerous reasons. ("too expensive", "not enough room", etc)

Now that you have her, the only thing the people on this site can do is help educate you even more.

Are you aware of the veggies and good quality pellets she is supposed to be getting?

It's not what I think. You just are rude.

Someone joins a forum. Wish to say hi and introduce her/himself.
Most people would say hi back to him/her. Plain and simple.
If you can't even grasp that simple concept,
maybe you are the one who need 'education'.

You are so caught up on your animal right world, you seem to forget
basic manner in 'human world'.

No - I'm not backing out on C&C cage. It's almost done.
I've spent lots of money on her already. I cut my cable TV so I can
spend more money for my pet monthly.

Yes - I know about good pellets and veggies.

Yey - I was going to take her to vet, not because of adoption
(because I didn't read any adoption info.)
because that's what I do with all pets just to be safe.
Pet store person told me they did every medical check but
I always take baby pet to vet to get them checked out
to be sure and ask for any advice they could give me.

This enough for your 'judgemental, unfriendly animal right standard' ?

Again, I must say, chill out.

Animal right world?

Welcome to Guinea Pig Cages. This site is dedicated to the good health and happiness of guinea pigs, plus any animal in general. Sorry if you didn't get the memo.

Typical.

Know they been wrong/rude, but can't admit to it, so

they start to pick on small portion of entire post to make fun.

I said 'animal right world' implying you don't have basic human world

manners.

What about other parts of my post?

Part where I know about good food or spending lots of money on her,
or building large cage or already taking her to vet ?

Can't seem to find any material to make fun out of those?

Jesus, what are you 11?

You know, I've replied several times trying to be as informative as possible. But you have just continued to dismiss them to say how "RUDE" I was for not immediately congratulating you on your petstore piggy.

I even said I was sorry if you found me to be rude. My first time posting here was not a breeze. People made me feel about 2 inches tall for being so naive about things. But I didn't know any better. And when you tell me you've read things on this site for several weeks, I can't help but wonder what you were reading, because there is a LOT of information on this site about rescue/shelter guinea pigs.

Quoted text from several area's on the website:
"This forum is run by a guinea pig rescue and is a rescue-friendly board."
You are correct, that it is your choice whether to buy or adopt a pig.
This, however IS a pro-rescue board so we strongly support, and push for adoptions.
No one here is going to hang you out to dry by your ears because you purchased a pet store pig. Most of us did at some point. Many of us that did, also wound up with pigs that were sick, infested with parasites, mis sexed, or pregnant so the comments of guinea lover aren't just off her shirt sleeve, they are truth. A truth that she just dealt with only a few weeks ago, in fact.

Some examples of why we are so pro-rescue, anti-petstore around here, can be found at the following links. Most of it is really hard to stomach.
https://www.guineapigcages.com/foru...e-breeding-care-housing-disaster-threads.html
https://cavyspirit.com/hollister.htm
https://cavyspirit.com/petstores.htm
https://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/kitchen/23746-why-not-get-petstore-guinea-pig-pictures.html
If you want to read more, there are hundreds of threads in THE KITCHEN forum.

Honestly, no ones intention is to be mean to you, it is just something we feel very strongly about. If you take the time to look through the above links, I think you will see and understand why. :)

Guinea pigs do better in pairs, as they are herd animals, it would be a wonderful thing for you to do, if you would consider adopting him a same sex cage mate.

If you haven't seen it yet, here is a link to a great nutritional chart that most of us use, to help us feed our pigs a well rounded, vit c packed veggie diet 1 cup per day per pig). Pigs also need unlimited supply of grass hay.
https://www.guineapigcages.com/foru...eed-know-about-cavys-diet-read-me-please.html

I commend you for arranging vet care, researching proper foods, and for building a CC Cage. It IS more than alot of people bother with.

Anyhoo, with all of that out of the way ;) Welcome to the forums, and I hope you find your stay here very useful and beneficial. You pig is absolutely precious.

Awww, congrats GL, you are officially 'inducted' lol PS, your PM boxes are full, I couldn't send you a message earlier....

Danny, Please do give the site a chance. We are friendly people, who only have animal well being at heart, it sounds like that is your intention too.
The internet, is the internet. It is hard to put forth things and always have them accepted the way they are shared because behind the keyboards we are expression and tone of voiceless.
We see people in and out of the 'door' here every day that are so unwillingly to provide even the basics--hay, vet care, more than a tiny amount of space, veggies.... It makes you wonder why they ever went searching for information in the first place, and I guess it makes us come off a little cold hearted , because we are so used to asking and answering the same questions, and having it rejected so often. :)
