Hello as you can tell I'm new here :)

Currently I have no piggies buy hopefully soon I can. I hope to learn lots here.

Since I have no piggies to introduce may tell you about my other pets? I have a dog named Blue. Two kittens named Hermione and Ginny. Eight hamsters named Dash, Riz, Spunky, Bandit, Dusk, Romeo, Trixie and Krista. Five betta fish named Risteek, Majestic, Butterfly, Casper and Zorro. I have a 20-gallon community tank which has seven guppies, three platies and four neon tetras. :D

I live in Canada, love animals, and I love to read

I hope to learn lots of guinea pigs.

Welcome - nice to meet you! There's a good bunch of Canadians here; most are from the eastern parts (well I guess everything is "east" for me), and I don't have a cavy either, and I've got a dog named Bleu (yes - the french speling), so you're fitting in already! ;)

Welcome to the forum! What part of Canada are you from? Maybe we can help you locate some piggies to adopt. I live in Hamilton, ON - there are a few members here in the southern Ontario area.

Southren Ontario :) Before I can even consider any piggies I want to research first and get permission from my parents. But it would be nice to adoptpiggies instead of buying them.

There are SPCA websites for Chatham, Brantford, Woodstock, Hamilton, and Stratford. They sometimes have piggies there. I know here in Hamilton they have quite a few. I am particularily fond of Chives. He looks so cute! If only the hubby would let us get more. But we are seriously lacking in space. It wouldn't be fair to the poor little piggie! Good luck in you hunt. Let us know when you get some pigs!

Welcome! I am also a hamster lover.

I have two. A black and white dom. spot Syrian female named Secret..

and a chocolate mottled Male Cambells Dwarf named Illusion.
(the pic is not of him, just a lookalike)

I have had lots of other hamsters in the past though...

Ski (pronounced sky) was a blue male cambells dwarf and lived to be 3 years old.

Winnie was a female cream banded Syrian and lived to be almost 4 years old.

Stormi was a Sable Roan Syrian and lived to be almost 3 years old.

I also have fostered other hamsters, but they ended up going to other homes..

With all the hamster I have had I found Wire cages to be best for the Syrians (one per cage of course.. since they are solitary) and aquariums or plastic bucket type cages to be best for Dwarfs. I have also found Carefresh bedding to be the best, and Ceder is the worst (just making a note of that in case you didn't know.. Ceder bedding will cause URI and will kill your hamster.)

Pictures of the hamster cage I made, that I found to work best for Syrians-

May I ask what kind of hamsters you have? Syrians or Dwarfs? Colors?

I don't own any pigs yet either.. but I am working on convincing my mom..

My family (not just in my house) owns 10 dogs-
Keira- female shepard mix

Jypsy- female chow/lab mix

Leo and Cole- male chihuahua/daschund mixes (leo is brown, cole is black)

Lady- female Mini Dachshund

Falcon- Male Maltese

Fiona Chanel (Fifi)- Toy Poodle (picture of her as a puppy)

Piper- female Malti-poo (my grandpa is holding her in the pic, Poe is in bg)

Pixie- female Malti-poo

Poe- Male Malti-poo (as a tiny puppy)

2 Mice-
Penny- female, black and white
Houdini- male, brown (no picture)

I also sometimes foster mice.. Here are some pics of my fosters...

This next picture was a temperary cage for only 2 days, but it was a whole lot better than what they came to me in.. Their permanent cages are (3) 20 gallons.. 3 mice per 20 gallon.

Also, one Cockatiel
Peaches- male

And this is me..

Sorry, didn't mean to hi-jack your board... lol

Oh, and to answer your question above.. I would recommend Oxbow food and hay-
(broken link removed)

I use carefresh and aspen. Pine and cedar are bad I know. I use habitrails(2 for each ham + tubes) for my syrians which includes:
Dash: LH male sable syrian
Riz: LH female sable syrian
Spunky: LH male caramel mink syrian
Bandit: SH male banded caramel mink syrian
My syrians are all seperated by the way.

My dwarfs are:
Dusk: male RC dilute black dwarf who lives in a 20 gallon long tank
Romeo: male RC lilac fawn dwarf who lives in a 20 gallon bin cage
Trixie is a female RC choclate dwarf and Krista is a female RC dilute black dwarf they are sisters and live together in a 30 gallon tank.

You have lots of dog by the way!

Yup.. lots and lots of dogs.. but most of them dont live at my house and/or are not my responisiblity.. although, I dont mind taking care of them.. Your hamsters sound adorable.. Hamsters are so great, I really want to adopt a few more, but I know that if I do I will have NO chance of adopting pigs.. Parents just don't understand...
