I have two dishes of pellets in my cage because we have all 5 pigs in one cage now. My one pig, Honey, it seems like all she does is sit in the corner by the dish and eats all day when she doesnt have veggies. I keep telling her shes going to get fat. lol Is this normal or ok?

This is an interesting question, I have been trying to find out how much pellets I should be giving a day - and have found that it should be 1/8 cup per pig per day. Firstly, how big is a cup? It may sound obvious to some, but I trully have no idea as to what you mean. Secondly, how can you be sure that one doesn't over eat leaving the other with none?

I had this problem with my horses, so have to seperate them at feed time - otherwise I have one very fat horse and one very skinny one!

1 cup equals .24 liters.

Maybe I am being thick, but does that mean they should eat 0.03 litres each per day?

Each pig needs 1/8 of a cup, so divide .24 liters by 8.

My 5 sows get 2/3 of cup of pellets per day. Their pellet dish is a divided cat/dog food dish.

In American terms 1 cup = 8 ounces. So 1/8 of a cup would be 1 ounce.

2 cups to a pint
2 pints to a quart
4 quarts to a gallon

1 cup 8 oz
pint 16 oz
quart 32 oz
128 oz to a gallon

You have to do the math change into metrics. LOL That is too hard for me.

Of course if I drink a pint of Guiness I can pass metrics easily. :p

In the US they often use cup measurements for recipes, where as we usually do it by weight.

Do you keep the hay fresh throughout the day? That may help.

jburgess, what type of pellets are you feeding? Do you free feed your pigs?

Especially if one of your pigs is gorging themselves, and especially if you are feeding alfalfa based pellets, I would limit the pellets to this 1/8 cup or 30ml per day per pig measurement. Make sure you offer unlimited grass hay for her to munch on, and one cup of fresh veggies per pig per day as well.

Has anyone ever used the ZEVRO PET FOOD DISPENSER or anything like it. Would this work for a guinea pig.

It would onlt be suitable if your pigs are under 6 months and need unlimited pellets.

Just in case this helps...

1 cup = 16 Tbsp (tablespoons)
1/8 cup = 2 Tbsp

You don't leave it in the cage, you fill it full of your pellets then at feeding time you put a bowl under it turn the knob and it drops out two tablespoons of food.
