My daughter is turning 6 on 7-6-2006 & has wanted a guinea pig ever since she visited the pet store on a field trip this past year in Kindergarten.I actually was interested in finding out if the piggies in Chicago Heights,IL were still adoptable? How do I find out?We are new to the whole guinea pig world,if any good tips on health,& maintainance,I would love the input,we've never owned one before, thanks,Beth.

Check out www.petfinder.com (http://www.petfinder.com) , you're bound to find some near you!

Make sure you do LOTS of research first though.

Welcome to the forum!

I strongly recommend you read over this sticky thread posted at the top of the forum: NEWBIES- Please Read This Post FIRST!!! (http://www.cavycages.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17032)

It will let you know not only about the forum and rules, but gives all the advice you need to raise a healthy cavy!

Where are the Chicago Heights IL pigs mentioned? It would be best to respond directly to that thread, as there is no guarantee that the right person will read this post to be able to tell you!

I think someone in adoptables has 2 pigs available in IL, but I might me wrong...

How close are you to Chicago? There is a lady near there that runs a rescue called the Critter Corral, she can set you up with a pair of pigs in not time flat, as she has lots! Also they will be in good health too so that is a real bonus!

Petfinder is the best place to look, other places are your local area shelters, and keeping an eye on Craigslist, Freecycle, and newspaper ads! However I really cannot over state checking the the Critter Corral even if it is a bit of a drive! Good luck!
