Bonjour!
My name well, you can just call me Lavender.
I'm XXX years old and currently own one hamster and - partly - two budgies.
I have no cavies currently but a friend of mine, hers had just recently had a litter of seven about four days ago. :cheerful:
Thats pretty much the reason I'm here, to get some beginner advice and read-up before I even ask for them to put one on hold for me. :?:
I mean, I've always wanted a cavy but I want to make double sure.

I hope I can learn alot over the next few weeks and make some friends in the process.

Hope you guys can give me some first grade advice,
Lavender

Welcome to Cavy Cages Lavender. There are just a couple of things that I need to point out to you. First of all, please read the Policies and Guidelines. They will help you to better understand how we need you to post on this forum.

Second, it was very cute that you changed your font color to lavender to match your name, but that makes it very hard to read the posts. Please only use the colors when you need to emphasize one or two words.

This is mentioned in the rules that I guided you to, but I also need to ask you to cut down on your use of the smilies. Obviously, they are cute, but they're not meant to be used for punctuation or even several in a post. Generally, 1 or 2 in every 10th post is a good number.

Lastly, you probably noticed that I edited out your age. We don't allow the posting of ages here. Unforunately, everyone on the internet is not as nice and caring as we all are, and I would hate for someone to do something to anyone.

You have come to the right place. This site will help with all needs of GP's.
You will find GP's to be wonderful and loving pets. In thinking of adopting, you will be better with 2 of the same sex. GP's are very social and need a friend. Keep reading and asking questions. Welcome to Cavy Cages.

First off, there a lot of things to know about your new pet. I'm going to list a bunch of links. This may look overwhelming. I suggest that you set aside several hours and browse through them. It is really worth it, you'll feel so much more knowledgeable about your pig after you do.

First here are a set of links on this forum so you know the beliefs held by the members here and why:
- Breeding (pet stores get their "stock" from breeders):
https://cavyspirit.com/breeding.htm
Now some links on Guinea Pig care:
- Common Misconceptions About Guinea Pigs: (A really good read)
https://guineapigcages.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11278
- **General Care Guide (I know it seems long, pleae read in it's entirity): https://www.guinealynx.info/healthycavy.html
- Floor Time (every pig needs it):
https://guineapigcages.com/floortime.htm
- Toys (a bored piggie is a sad piggie):
https://www.guineapigcages.com/toys.htm
- Sexing (this is especially important if you plan on getting your new pet a friend. Do not trust anyone. Make sure yourself. Vets, petstores, breeders, even shelters missex.)
https://cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm
- Social Life (again important if you plan on getting another pig): https://cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm
Medical Links:
- Emergencies (read before you have one.):
https://www.guinealynx.info/emergency.html
- Finding a cavy savvy vet (Important to do before you have a sick pig on your hands!):
https://www.guinealynx.info/vet.html
I know this looks like a lot. And it is. But it is so worth knowing. Guinea pigs are complex animals. They are not easy to care for. But they are worth all the work. I know that once I started reading, I couldn't stop. I hope you will find the same is true for you. These are links to get you started. You will probably want to learn and know more.

Once you do please check out these links where I got the above information and read through the whole site:
https://www.guinealynx.info/index.html
https://cavyspirit.com/

Again, welcome to the forums.
Christine

Welcome to the forum. I hope you let us know when you get your new piggies and if they're boys or girls. Also, I just have a tiny question. Did your friend have an accidental pregnancy?
