I am fostering a gerbil that is probably pregnant for the SPCA. I am wondering if anyone knows of a good gerbil care site or if anyone can answer some questions:

1) What is their gesgation period?
2) What do they like to eat besides commercial gerbil food
3) At what age can I start handling the babies?
4) When do boys and girls need to be seperated so no one gets pregnant again?

I *think* their gestation period is about 19-28 days-can be longer if she is pregnant while feeding another litter-up to 40 days I believe.
Milet goes down really well with them and some fresh food, mine like apple cucumber, carrot and some other things but not to often.
The babies you can handle from day one BUT ONLY if mum will alow you.
Hum with the boys its about 6 week sold that they need removing I separated mine at 4 weeks as he was huge. Babies are prone to getting respraty infections to, sadly.
If you use a food dish in the tank/cage then when babies are born take it out as they can become trapped under then and run into the dish.
