Look what I made tonight! Its still not finished though, there is still the upper deck and the hinged lid to make yet.

Part One, all cut up and ready to go:

Part Two, most of the basic frame:

And Part Three, with half the mesh on.

Good job! I would get frusterated with such a project, me and my boyfriend had such a hard time with the coroplast (I know, I know) I think we would have spent a week on your cage. It looks great.

Ok I hate to be a downer but what do you have to keep the wood from getting soaked with urine? Otherwise, it's pretty nice.

Currently, a shower curtain under newspaper, but when its all finished - either linoleum, or coroplast.

Good. I'm glad to hear that. I was worried. I don't think I could build anything like that.

4' x 2', with the upper being 2' x 2'.

Thanks guys! I was thinking too, that if I were to get any more pigs, I could easily make another 2' x 2' deck and stack it up on top. Or, make a 3' x 2' and use that as the middle deck, with the 2' x 2' at the top. :)

The only problem is if you add more pigs, you will have to expand the main level. Only the main level counts towards overall square footage. Upper decks/lofts don't. That cage would hold 2 pigs comfortably but no more than that. The cage looks nice and is in between the size of a 2x3 and 2x4 C&C. Good work.

How does that work then? You have a bottom floor of 8 sq feet, a middle floor of 6 sq feet, then a top deck of 4 sq feet - but you can only consider there to be 8sq feet of space - why disregard the other 10 square feet space they move around on and utilise?

I think it has something to do with the fact that cavies are ground dwellers. You want to count the part of the cage they don't have to climb to reach as main living area. Upper levels are great, both for exercise and convenience, but a lot of piggies don't like climbing ramps or tunnels, so you don't want to have to count on the square footage in the higher floors.

That is a fabulous job you did building your cage!

Looks great! I do like it very much. Good job.

Strictly speaking my own cage is below the minimum for 4 pigs. I have a 3-level 4x2. It is impossible for me to go any bigger - my lifestyle means I have to move an awful lot, and anything more than a 4x2 will not go down the stairs. Goodness knows, it only just fits through doorways!
