...do I build with the mesh panels inside the trays or the trays inside the mesh panels? :)

Most build with the cubes/grids/panels outside the correx tray.

Hmmm, I was thinking that might let mess out easier... okay thanks for your reply :)

If you want to do it the opposite way then you can, with the grids inside the pan. There is no real right or wrong way to do it. It's more personal preference. I was just stating earlier that most do have the grids on the outside.

I find it is easier to clean with grids on the outside. The grids are a pain to clean.

Right, I think I'll try with them on the inside or on top of the tray first ( my tray is being made out of MDF ) then if it's not brilliant, I can trim the base down so that it fits inside the grids. Thanks very much for the replies, it's my first C & C cage so I expect to come across teething problems :)

I thought MDF wasn't safe for pigs? Maybe I'm imagining it, but I thought MDF wasn't a safe wood for pigs.

MDF isn't too safe for humans never mind guinea pigs. It's made of small particles of wood bonded together with an agent that contains formaldehyde (a preservative). The tiny wood fibres have been known to be carcinogenic and the formaldehyde, even in tiny quantities, can irritate human noses, eyes and mouths. I would never, ever use it in a cage where a piggy could get near it.

Wouldn't they chew the MDF anyway?

I know mine would shred it!

if you build the wire ouside the cage then you have somewhere for the pigs to go when cleaning the base and some floor time without them escaping...

Thanks, they have an run made of mesh panels too, I just fold it up when not in use and I clean their cage out while they were in there :)
