I have a 9 year old little girl, A black lab named bubba, and a guinea pig named lilly. I have a brain disease called arnold chiari malformation type 1 and muscle disease called guillian' barre' syndrome. I've struggled my whole life and had brain surgery in June of 2016. I also have a part time job taking care of my wheelchair bound mother who me and my daughter live with. I also am currently enrolled to get a degree in associates of applied science in criminal investigations. I try to do everything and live a normal life as best as i can despite my disabilities. I have a question on my new baby lilly. We got lilly our very first guinea pig from a neighbor and were not sure what to do exactly. We have her in a see through big tote got her timothy hay to eat and some other guinea pig food, and wood chippings for bedding. We also have a make shift bed/cage type thing in there but I don't think its good enough and hopefully I can attach pictures. anyway she always appears cold I think Idk so we have added fury things like my slipper with fur inside to keep her warm. We are going to get a new cage and accessories when we can get the money because we want her to have a big cage incase we get her a companion. But my question is, am I doing something wrong were she is continuously making noises idk what each squeek means. I want to make her comfortable and we love her but everytime we try to pick her up but we get bitten quite a bit and were worried. Her nails are also quite long but we have a vet appointment on the 5th of may to get them clipped and that. So any advice would be great!!!! Thank you.

Welcome!

But do get her out of that plastic box ASAP! It's not a suitable guinea pig cage at all, and she may wind up with a respiratory infection. But don't spend money on a pet store cage, because it won't be big enough for one pig, much less two. See www.cavyspirit.com for how to make a C&C cage -- you can get the material for them for very little money or even free if you're willing to scavenge around. There's a thread on how to make them, and if lissie see this, I hope she'll post the URL for it.

Here's some reading material for new guinea pig owners:

Okay, Thank you very much! I just didn't have much money to get her one and they gave her to us without much notice so I had to deal with what I had. So as soon as I get the money I will get her a temporary real guinea pig cage until I get her a permanent one. Thank you so much for those links.

Thank You very much, Lissie. Could you also supply me with a list of appropriate foods like veggies and that they can eat and cannot eat?
