Hey everyone,

My name is Mandy and I am a proud new owner of a beautiful little piggie named Lily. I am new to having guinea pigs but I am already obsessed with them. I am also the proud auntie to another pig named Hamilton who lives with my roommate downstairs. I'm excited to be in this place to learn everything I can. I will be making my own cage as soon as I can (forgive me, I am a poor college student) as well as getting Lily a friend to play with that won't get her pregnant. I am probably the only one on here who is in college and is new to this so I look forward to seeing what everyone has to suggest!!!

Thanks for having this page, it helps a lot.

Oh no!! I am so sorry that I got her from a pet store. I tried to adopt but I found her and wanted her. I know now for next time and I will be wary of pet stores when purchasing another guinea pig or other supplies.

Welcome to the forum!

Bpatters has given you all the links to get you started.

You're hardly the only college student, I'm also a student. I'm going into my 5th year at my University and am studying Biological Science and Animal Science.

I've got 5 guinea pigs, they make great college pets. They can be really cuddly and interactive when you need a buddy but they can also be left to their own devices when you're really busy, as long as they have food and a clean cage!

Thanks so much!! I am about to be a Junior (3rd year) studying Geography and International Relations. She so far has been a real sweetie and pretty good. I over researched guinea pigs before I got her so I have a pretty good idea of how to do things so far, I just have to learn what she wants specifically and save up enough to make my own C&C cage.

Definitely upgrade her and search for a female or neutered male buddy. These guys benefit so much from having a cagemate. Plus I'm sure during the school year you get into very busy times so spending snuggle time with her could be difficult. Even if you are around, human companionship is nothing compared to the company of another pig!

I would highly recommend saving what you can to form a vet fund. These guys can become very sick, very quickly. It's not fun to be worried about finances when you have sick little guy.
