My little Dude, Oscar, has a new cage.

This is his old tiny petstore cage. As you can see his hidey and foodbowls barely fit in there along with Oscar himself. I could hear him at night searching for something to do and I new he was bored. But how could I fit any toys in there? The cage is 25 x 15 inches.

I gathered materials from the shed and thought how I could improve his life. I made him a 31 x 21 inch cage. It is in my room above my chest of drawers. As their are walls around the side I decided he didn't need edges round his cage so he only has two grids at the front to stop him falling out. I am able to fit more stuff in there to entertain him and he seems much happier.

He won the rosettes at a pet show!

The cage looks great! He must love all of that room! But, something I wouldn't suggest doing is showing him. As you probably already know, this site is anti-showing.

Very nice job... he is a lucky hedgie.
Does he snuggle with his hedgehog stuffed animals?

This site is against showing run by breeders..etc.. He only comes along to pet shows. They are much different and I thought they were okay and were allowed on this site:confused: Many people on here take their guinea pigs to those type of shows I thought.:sorry:

I would have to imagine a "pet" show would be much different than a show put on by breeders and wouldn't be classified as a show that promoted breeding and showing based on a set breed type standard, but more of an educational and fun type of show promoting responsible ownership and somewhere for like minded people to get together and have fun with thier pets, of course I would imagine some pets could or would be stressed greatly being transported and in a unfamiliar place where as other pets would have fun and of course that would be the judgement of the pets owner as to wether the animal enjoys going on trips and visiting new places or would totally freak out.

:) Thanks everyone. Oscar only goes to his pet shows once a year and he doesn't get stressed at all. Last time they didn't take him out.. they just looked at him in his cage. They did that with a few because they didn't want to disturb them. He is used to journeys as I like to take him out with me and he walks around the house with me so he's used to lots of noise. Here are some pictures of him!

Nice hedgehog. Is he an albino type?
I never knew you could have hedgehogs as pets.

No he is not Albino, funnily enough I always get asked that questionlol African Pygmy hedgehog are lighter than wild ones I suppose. He is a crossbreed - Salt and Pepper x Apricot. I didn't know they could be pets either until I found the person who was selling him:eek:

Oscar looks just like my Em! Unfortunatly she passed on a few years ago, and just didn't want another hedgie, as much as I loved her. Very cute, and such a nice cage!

Aww Kriket I'm sorry about Em.:guilty: After Oscar I will probably not get another hedgy, they are interesting pets but not the type to snuggle with.. and they are so much money. But I really love Oscar, he is an intertaining pet!!!

Hehe.. He pushed one of his hedghehog toys to the food dish yesterday, maybe he wanted to share his food:confused:

Kero used to do that all the time. He was always shoving Mr. Hedgie's head into the veggie dish. Now he's older and doesn't do it anymore :( He was quite mad at Mr.Hedgie for smelling a bit like Spinel so we put Mr. Hedgie in with Lina. It's quite the love triangle.
