My pig is currently in a small pet store cage, and I can't afford a bigger one. Is it alright if I just guinea pig proof my room and allow her to free range? Only making her sleep in such a cramped space with one other pig?

I wouldn't make her sleep in a cramped space with another pig. Lack of space is a major reason guinea pigs fight with each other.

You can make a cage very cheaply, or for free. See the Main tab at the top of this page and follow the links on the lefthand side for how to make a C&C cage.

Okay. I won't make her sleep in a cramped space, but can I still just have a bedroom as a "cage" or must I build a C&C cage?

You can have a bedroom as a cage. But pigs can't be potty trained, so you'll have a big mess on the floor.

I kind of expected that. ^^'
Thank you! I have a lot to learn about guinea pig care. This is only temporary. :)
I'll be getting more money soon to get a C&C cage from this website. Thank you for your help!

No. All you need are grids, connectors, zip ties and pliers.

Cheaper, yes, but my building skills aren't the best. Are they difficult?
They are not difficult. I'd say the most difficult would be to cut a straight line on the coroplast. It would help if you have a straight edge ruler, and a box cutter.

If you buy from the store, you'd still have to put the grids together.

I would recommend saving a lot of time to work on building a c and c cage so you can really focuse on making straight lines, making sure everything is secure etc. Also, it helps to have someone help you do it and be there when you need them! Just make sure your relaxed and confident and you should be fine! :)

If you're worried about the coroplast, might I recommend a shower curtain? I had to switch to it after my guinea pigs chewed up their coro, and it works good. You have to make sure it's out of the way so they don't eat it, but if you can do that it's a good alternative.

I just wanted to say that I got a bigger cage. It's eight square feet. :)
