In my last topic I mentioned I recently made a beautiful two story DIY pig cage, out of thick plywood and plexiglass. The cage measures 80x30in, a little bit bigger than a 2x6 C&C.The plexiglass is 4 1/2 inches tall, including a narrow, thick wood piece going around the cage that mounts the plexiglass. Here is the picture:
My family was concerned that the pigs would be able to hop over the wall, but I had faith in my pigs- maybe a little too much. I spoke too soon, and Alabaster finally figured a way over the wall. So he jumped it again. And again. And again. And again. You get the point. Hurley, Saige and Alaska don't even pay attention to the walls, unless there is food coming their way. But Alabaster is completely fascinated by the wall, and seem to leave it alone (probably because he is the biggest attention hog I ever had) I am becoming exasperated just trying to keep him in.
I do, however, have some ideas to fix this issue, but I would like some insight on them before acting upon them.
1. Add another piece of plexiglass over the wall already mounted. Sure it may fix my issue, but how will I be able to reach into the cage to feed them and clean up? Not only are there restrictions, but it completely ruins the look of the cage-it'll look tacky with another piece of plexiglass over plexiglass. Oh, also expensive. Very expensive.
2. Redrill the plexiglass to the inside of the cage. This will fix the issue greatly, but still won't look the nicest (obviously not the biggest issue here, but I still want it to look aesthetically pleasing) However. my grandpa (who built the cage) is going on chemo soon, so I won't be able to do it as fast as I would like it to be.
Just for the night I have moved the two into the hospital cage, but this is only temporary and the issue must be resolved immediately. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed it didn't work out how I wanted it to, can someone please help??
