I'm watching my friends guinea pigs and the female just gave birth to 3 pups on July 1st. She had her to the vet 2 weeks prior to giving birth where they noticed her skin was somewhat dry and had a scab. They gave her an anti-itch topical spray and an antifungal spray. She stopped using this when the babies were born so it wouldn't affect them. The mom had been hiding all day and night and I finally took her out today and noticed her back was terrible. I'll attach some pictures. I was wondering if anyone has any idea what it could be and what to do about the babies..

That V-shape to the hair loss looks like a classic sign of mites, as does redness and itching. The way to treat it is Ivermectin, but there is controversy over its safety for the mother and babies. The best place to read about this is on Guinea Lynx, until people with more experience can comment. But I would definitely tell your friend that her pig has mites and tell her about the options, because you can treat it at home, although she might feel more comfortable if you take the piggies to the vet.
